Nellie was 3 months old yesterday 🥳

Nellie is fully house trained ✔️
Clean in her crate ✔️
Sleeps through the night (6 hours) ✔️
Settles in the car including including 1 hour + journeys and alongside other dogs ✔️
Can be left at home alone for 3-4 hours ✔️
Does not rush out of her crate but waits for a release cue ✔️

I will be beginning box feeding with Nellie soon as well as tethering training for settling this week.

Super happy with her progress and the sky is the limit

Photos from this morning’s group walk. Thirteen dogs! All of these dogs have learnt or are continuing to learn how to co-exist around other dogs, without the need for interaction or space creating behaviour.
As well as working around the other dogs, we also worked on exposure to horses and donkeys.
I’m so proud of every single one of these dogs and their owners!

Nellie update - integrating a puppy into the home
Nearly three weeks in and lots has been happening, lots of progress has been made in certain areas, other areas are taking longer.

🐾 Toilet training near enough sorted. With regular trips during the day, and one trip in the middle of the night, she is clean in her crate and waits until she is in the garden.

🐾 Crate training, she is sleeping in her crate in the other room during the night, and settles well after the trip outside. Generally she is better if we put her into the crate and leave straight away, closing the door. She knows that means it’s time to rest nothing is happening.

🐾 We are working on her spending time in the crate in the front room with the other pets, this is a couple of times a day. This is a space to settle and learn to switch off, sleep if she wants but to learn how to relax around a bit more of a stimulating environment.

🐾 Her and Buster the cat have sort of reached a mutual understanding. She is curious and wants to play but is also quite respectful of his personal space.

🐾 Ralph is still a work in progress, although he is much more relaxed this last week, he walks past her crate (when she’s in the front room) and just ignores her mostly. He is much less tense and is showing abit of curiosity.

🐾 Training wise we are mostly just hand-feeding and luring into the heel position, sit, down, onto the place bed and onto the pivot bowl but without adding any commands yet. She has almost learnt ‘leave’ which I only use for situations which are not safe for her, and also ‘bring it’ she brings me a toy (or a sock or a twig she has found)

Big Lenny Forever
There is a huge dobermann shaped hole left in PMK9 as Lenny suddenly passed away last week. Lenny was a regular for around four years and he taught me a whole lot. From playing orange ball in the garden to naps on the sofa together at the longer dog sits. Chasing you round the kitchen island lol. Lenny you will be so missed. Sending lots of love to his owner at this time. RIP Big Lenny ❤️❤️❤️

2 Weeks of Nellie and Nellie’s 2 personalities 😂

Nellie is toilet trained, clean in her crate and will wait until she gets outside (with regular breaks)
Nellie is crate trained through the night and for sleep during the day.

Working on:
Co-existing with Ralph and my cat Buster, settling in the front room in the crate when activity is going on around her
Luring into positions
Exposure, taking her to different places

Handfeeding and luring with Nellie, currently all her meals are hand fed, whether we are luring into various positions or building positive association with different things.

Introducing a new dog to the home, the part that is often rushed and ends badly.
Expecting the dogs to immediately get on and encouraging direct interaction can put way too much pressure on them. Especially in a situation like this, an older dog who has some days where he is stiff, and minimal patience for a bouncy puppy.
Right now we are working on co-existence.
It is important that Nellie understands I am the one that gives her access to everything she wants, including Ralph. When I say it’s ok, it’s ok, and when I say enough, it’s enough.
Me building a strong relationship with Nellie is a priority, not her relationship with Ralph, that will come in time.
Some dogs are more easy going and tolerant, Ralph is not one of those dogs which is why I do this in a certain way, I did the exact same when Buster was a kitten.
This is why crate training, using pens, baby gates etc is so useful.
Also this dinosaur has been a game changer in the transition from being in a large litter to being more solitary 🦖

PMK9’s newest addition.
On Wednesday, Nellie joined the family. Nellie is a bull herder from Apex K9’s 2Shiesty x Big Rage.
I have a few ideas on the direction I would like to go with Nellie in terms of sports and trials but we will see where this journey takes us.
I could not have done this without the help from Viggo K9 and also JL-K9 , we have a great team around us.
For now Nellie is settling in, we are doing the basics. Building a relationship, establishing a routine, crate training, toilet training and taking her out and about in her puppy sling to expose her to the world.
