Latest Bird Flu (Avian Influenza) restrictions 🐓🦆

Due to an increase in cases the government has issued a new AI Protection Zone as of 12 noon today across the whole of England. Certain areas are under a mandatory housing order. In addition, after a large Avian Influenza outbreak nearby, a mandatory housing order has now been declared to cover Shropshire.

Bird keepers across Great Britain legally must:
🐓Keep free ranging birds within fenced areas
🐔Ponds, watercourses and permanent standing water must be fenced off (except in specific circumstances e.g. zoo birds)
🥾Clean and disinfect footwear and keep areas where birds live clean and tidy
🦃Minimise movement in and out of bird enclosures
🧹Reduce any existing contamination by cleansing and disinfecting concrete areas, and fencing off wet or boggy areas
🦆Keep domestic ducks and geese separate from other poultry
⚠️Ensure the areas where birds are kept are unattractive to wild birds, for example by netting ponds, and by removing wild bird food sources
🏚Feed and water your birds in enclosed areas to discourage wild birds

Keepers should familiarise themselves with our avian flu advice and report suspicion of disease to APHA on 03000 200 301.

The avian influenza prevention zone will be in place until further notice and updates can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/bird-flu-avian-influenza-latest-situation-in-england

If you keep birds in the SHROPSHIRE zone, from 00.01 Monday 27th January all “kept birds” will need the enhanced biosecurity and housing.

🐑 Free Farmer Talk being held online - Are you prepared for lambing? 🐑

Selekt System are hosting an online meeting for sheep farmers on the 25th of February covering oral fluids at lambing time, hypocalcaemia and twin lamb disease. They will also be discussing their new product, SELEKT Re-ewe-venate, which we are pleased to report we have in stock now!

Speak to us to find out more in the meantime if you've already reached that risk period for twin lamb issues pre-lambing.

To register please email Katie Pearson at [email protected] including your name and registered vet practice.

IMPORTANT CLIENT NOTICE

We wish to make you aware of a temporary change to the main office opening hours in Ellesmere from Monday 12th August. We are also so sorry for the short notice, but we hope to be able to work with you to make these necessary changes work for us all.

This change comes into place due to staffing shortages within the small animal services run from Ellesmere, who we rely on to answer our phonecalls and respond to your enquiries outside of the hours that our dedicated farm receptionist Emily works.

We wish to ensure you are aware that Brownlow’s Large animal service provision is as you expect, but our office opening hours will differ from normal. We please ask that you give us a call before attending the surgery premises to collect any requested medicines. We'll do our best to coordinate a time to come in or arrange secure collection from outside of the premises. Calls outside of office hours will be answered by the emergency call handling system.

To get in touch regarding our large animal services, please call 01691 626939

Monday : 9am - 3pm (closed for lunch 12-12.30pm)
Tuesday : 9am - 3pm (closed for lunch 12-12.30pm)
Wednesday : variable , but aim to be open 9am - 5pm (closed for lunch 1- 2pm)
Thursday : 9am - 3pm (closed for lunch 12-12.30pm)
Friday : 9am - 5pm (closed for lunch 1- 2pm)

We thank you for your continued support and welcome your feedback during this temporary transition. Please be assured our team is here to help and we hope that we can work together to provide the same quality service you have come to know from our team at Brownlow and Park Issa Farm Vets. As soon as we have any updates on when things can go back to normal we'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks
Elaine

Today is , which is a campaign run by the Farmers Guardian and sponsored by Morrisons, to show consumers just how much the farming community care about the food we all eat!

Our team are so proud to be part of our local farming community, and we just love working with our farmers to produce the highest quality food possible whilst prioritising high standards of animal health and welfare.

Our work, and our farmers too, never stops. So at the end of a busy day for team farm at Brownlow and Park Issa Farm Vets, let's share the successes of tonight's emergency call. What a gorgeous heifer calf! 😍
