As you know it's really important for us to practice what we preach at Simply Keyhole.
I thought I would update on our keyhole progress as my new GP clinic Heritage Vets has been open THREE MONTHS this week!
We have had our KARL STORZ laparoscopy equipment for 12 weeks, and it has been put to very good use. We have now performed 50 laparoscopic procedures. Ovariectomies from 1.2kg cats to 50kg Bullies, cryptorchid cat and dog castrations, lap-assisted gastropexies and an ovarian remnant surgery.
We have also used our video-otoscope to flush out Psuedomonas ears, our cystoscope/rhinoscope for bladder and nose diagnostics, and our lovely gastroscope for foreign body retrieval.
We invested over £60,000 in equipment, which is was a huge portion of our equipment budget. However, it is already well on the way to paying itself back, and at this rate we will have our return on investment in under 12 months.
The benefit to our patients, the attraction of clients and the ability to expand our diagnostic services keeping our cases in house by far outweighs the investment we made from the start.
There's absolutely no doubt laparoscopy is the way to go, and all the additional opportunities the kit allows are life changing. Of course, that's easily said when you can already perform the surgeries!
