I heard about Miracle Hill Dog Adoption Centre through Hope For Podencos - it's a charity organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes Spanish podencos. I was after a volunteering gig in Spain with this breed at a shelter which didn't need me in my own car to get there. I flew into Malaga, and a little over an hour later by bus, I was with Miracle Hill founder Jane Bussmann. Up here, there's three small houses and an apartment where volunteers live with the dogs while helping with the project. At the moment, there's 15 dogs at the shelter of different breeds, including Podencos. In with me in the Tree House are Buddy, Teddy, Ronnie and Lucy. I'm a petsitter, and this feels pretty similar - that should make leaving less excruciating. It won't. This is an excellent set up. They're in a home environment with a volunteer that'll happily be posing as their owner. Time to adjust, time to heal, time to relish in what they've been robbed of. I'd have all them, even if Teddy isn't quite as keen in his skittishness and Lucy's potentially been bagsied.
