Proof that even the trainer’s dog has two modes: majestic professional ✨ and absolute chaos goblin 😂🐾

Balance is important, right? 😅

Same route. Same walk. Two completely different approaches 😂🐾

⚡ Collie: The aim is to cover as much ground as physically possible.
🌼 Golden: The aim is to smell every single blade of grass.

One’s training for the Olympics.
The other’s reading the local news. 😂

Wouldn’t have them any other way ❤️🐶

What you see on the end of a lead isn’t always the real problem. It’s often a symptom of something else.

My client’s dog had developed a pattern of becoming over-excited very quickly. Once over threshold, that excitement — combined with some insecurity and frustration — resulted in barking, pulling and lunging.

He isn’t being a “bad dog”. He simply hasn’t understood what he should be doing instead.

The more a behaviour is rehearsed, the easier it becomes to repeat. So our job isn’t just to stop the barking — it’s to give him a better option.

During our session, we worked on clearer communication, slowing things down and intervening before he reached that explosive point, teaching him that disengagement is an option too.

If we wait until a dog is already barking and lunging at the end of the lead, we’re trying to fix the behaviour in the moment.

Train for the moment, not in the moment.

Early intervention gives us a much better opportunity to influence the decision.

Clarity. Timing. Consistency.

We’re not teaching him to ignore the world. We’re teaching him how to experience it without feeling the need to react to everything. 🐶

Behaviour is communication. Don’t just focus on what your dog is doing — ask why they’re doing it.

Does your dog bark, pull or lunge at dogs, people or other things in their environment?

You don’t have to wait for the behaviour to get worse before asking for help.

📩 Send me a DM with the word “TRAINING” and tell me a little about what you’re struggling with. Let’s get you and your dog moving in the right direction.

People often think dog training is all about teaching commands...

It isn't! Its only a small part.

The strongest obedience comes from a dog that genuinely values being with its handler.

Before asking for reliability around distractions, we first build engagement, trust and clear communication. When your dog sees you as someone worth paying attention to, everything else becomes much easier.

Training isn't about controlling your dog—it's about creating a relationship where they choose to work with you because they understand you, trust you and enjoy doing so.

That's exactly what we're building here. 🐾

If you'd like to build the same relationship with your dog, send me a message to book your first session.

Spaces for my 1:1 coaching are limited, and I now only take on owners who are genuinely committed to putting the work in and making a lasting difference to their dog's behaviour.

There is no magic wand or quick fix—just clear guidance, consistency and the right training. If you're ready to commit to the process, I'd love to help you and your dog achieve your goals.

☀️ Warmer weather means changing how we operate 🐾

Your dog's safety always comes first.

When the temperatures rise, our services adapt:
🌳 Sticking to shaded routes
💦 Taking regular water breaks
⏰ Avoiding the hottest part of the day or shortening walk/training time
🐕 Spending more time on the lead to keep dogs safe and prevent overexertion
❤️‍🔥 Cancelling or rescheduling if its too hot

Every decision I make is with your dog's wellbeing in mind, so they can still enjoy their time while staying cool, comfortable, and happy.

Can we all just appreciate this happy face in the shade? 😍🐶

We were out bright and early before the heat arrived, making the most of a peaceful morning walk.

Hows everyone's dogs coping today?

☀️ A Little Reminder ☀️

We know, we know... we're in Scotland, and "summer" usually means deciding whether you need a light raincoat or a heavy raincoat! 🌦️😂

However, with the higher temperatures approaching this week, we wanted to send out a quick reminder about our warm weather policy.

As always, every decision we make is based solely on the welfare of the dogs in our care. When the temperatures rise, we may need to bring walks forward to cooler times of the day, shorten walks, swap them for alternative enrichment activities, or cancel them altogether if conditions are unsafe. Especially if your dog usually walks with us around midday.

We understand that dogs love their walks, but their safety will always come first.

A reminder that no dog has ever died from missing a walk, but dogs can and do suffer from heat exhaustion and heatstroke, which can be life-threatening.

We appreciate your understanding and support when these decisions are made. We'd much rather make short term changes than risk your dogs life!

Thank you for trusting us to always put your dogs' wellbeing first at Golden Pawz 🐾❤️ and if you arent understanding of these reasons- then we are not the right fit for your dog!

Walking dogs in the heat for prolonged periods is highly irresponsible and far too risky. Head for the shade, walk earlier/later, avoid midday walks and stay near water where possible.

WE’RE BACK 🐾☀️

The gang were all out nice and early today to avoid the hottest part of the day 🌿💦

A little reminder for dog owners during warmer weather:

It’s not just the air temperature you need to think about… your dog’s arousal levels matter too.

A highly aroused / over-aroused dog is already running hotter internally through excitement, stress, constant movement or overstimulation. So even if it’s “only” 20°, their body temperature can climb much higher, much faster 🥵

Hot weather + high arousal = a risky combo.

My top tips:
🐾 Opt for shorter walks
🌳 Stick to shaded areas
💦 Walk near water where possible
⏰ Get out early morning or later evening
🧠 Focus on calmness over chaos

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our dogs is slow things down a little 💚

How has your dog been coping in the heat? ⬇️

Place is a life skill. 🧠🐾

This is what a proofed place command looks like in the real world: calm, focused, and reliable… even with fast-moving distractions like bikes passing by.

But here’s the part most people skip ⬇️
Dogs don’t just know place.

It’s built step by step:
• First in the house (low distraction)
• Then around the house (more movement, more noise)
• Then outside (new environments)
• Adding duration (how long they stay)
• Adding distance (how far you move away)
• And finally, real-life distractions like this 👆

If your dog struggles in public, it doesn’t mean they’re “stubborn” — it usually means the foundation hasn’t been fully built yet or properly.

Slow it down. Be consistent. Raise criteria gradually.

That’s how you get a dog who can truly switch off anywhere. 💯
