VOLUNTEER DRIVER WANTED

Do you enjoy driving, meeting people and being part of a friendly team?

Durham Dogs and Cats Home is looking for a cheerful and energetic volunteer driver to help us for one to three afternoons each week.

You’ll support our day-to-day logistics between our kennels and charity shops in Chester-le-Street and Hartlepool. We’re looking for an experienced and confident driver who is happy driving vans and lending a hand with practical tasks when needed.

You’ll become part of the wider DDCH family, helping our shops and kennels work together to raise funds and care for local dogs and cats who need us.

If you have some spare time, enjoy being out and about and would like to do something worthwhile, we’d love to hear from you.

Please email [email protected] to find out more.

Ollie was delighted to be the first to use the new rehoming cabin today! This area will be used to socialise our dogs, even in the worst of weather.

He did however think it was a little “sparse’ and could do with being a bit more comfortable for our visitors and the dogs they come to see.

Has anyone local got any conservatory style furniture that would make it a little more for Ollie?

We can collect within a reasonable distance of Coxhoe. What do you think would make this a nice useable space?

Please share on local wanted / selling sites 👍

A big thank you to Education Officer, Helen, for delivering nationally recognised training to our Community Engagement Team.

From September, we will be visiting local schools to teach children how to stay safe around dogs using the 3 Cs method:

Check. Call. Count.

Children will also learn what to do if they are approached by a dog in the street and feel frightened, as well as how to spot signs that a dog may be anxious, uncomfortable or overwhelmed.

Even the friendliest family dog can react if it feels scared or threatened. By helping young people understand these warning signs, we can prevent incidents, keep children safe and reduce the risk of dogs being given up for adoption or put to sleep following an avoidable situation.

Thank you to Helen and Blue Cross for helping us protect both children and dogs in our community.

For those who cant wait, and want to keep kids safe over the summer holidays, here is a link to a short animated video that covers the key points:

We are delighted to have been chosen as one of HMRC North East’s charity partners for their 2026/27 fundraising year.

A huge thank you to everyone at HMRC who nominated and selected Durham Dogs & Cats Home. It means so much to know that our work caring for and rehoming dogs and cats has been recognised by your staff.

We’re looking forward to today’s event, meeting everyone involved, and working together over the coming year to raise awareness of our charity while helping even more animals find the loving homes they deserve.

We can’t wait to get started. Thank you for your support. It will make a real difference to the animals in our care.
