Introducing the not-so-little part of Little & Large Pet Care… Samantha!

Samantha will be helping to provide:

🐶 Dog walks
🐾 Garden visits for puppies, older dogs, or during hot weather when walks aren’t suitable
🐱 Cat care visits
🐹 Small animal care for rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets
🐴 Horse care and yard duties – including the job nobody wants to do… poo picking!

Samantha is fully covered under the business insurance and brings a lifetime of animal experience with her. She has been riding since she was 4 years old, has worked at Rednil, and continues to help with the horses at The Haven in Saxilby.

At home, we share our lives with two dogs and a cat, and in September Samantha will be starting her Level 3 Equine Management course.

She is completely animal mad and would far rather spend her day walking through muddy fields with a dog, fussing over your cat, caring for horses, or poo picking a field than worrying about hair and makeup!

As Samantha will be travelling on foot or by bicycle, she will only be able to cover Dunholme, Welton, and areas just outside these villages.

Her rates will be:

🐾 10 minutes – £6
🐾 20 minutes – £8
🐾 30 minutes – £10
🐾 45 minutes – £12.50
🐾 60 minutes – £14

We’re excited to have her on board and know she’ll be a fantastic addition to Little & Large Pet Care.

What a month May has been!

Never did I think that, just a few months into this venture, I would be so busy already.

This month I’ve had the pleasure of walking lots of wonderful dogs, caring for many cats, looking after horses, and spending time with rabbits and guinea pigs too.

The hot weather has certainly kept me on my toes. Walks haven’t always been possible, so we’ve adapted with garden visits, enrichment games, scent trails, play sessions, plenty of fuss, and essential toilet breaks to make sure dogs still get the stimulation they need while their owners are out.

Before the sunshine arrived, we were all trudging through the rain. It feels like a distant memory now, but there were definitely a few days when I got caught in hailstorms and felt like I was walking through a gale!

I’ve cared for both indoor and outdoor cats, including wandering the streets trying to persuade one particular feline that it really was time to come in for the night — although they clearly felt the outside world was far more exciting.

There have been horses needing medication and a little extra support, as well as nervous pets learning that I’m someone they can trust. Some are straight over for cuddles and treats, while others prefer to judge me from a safe distance first!

It’s been hotter than Spain and honestly… none of us have known what to do with ourselves. ☀️🥵

Work suddenly becomes a logistical headache.

• When is it too hot to walk?
• Am I actually going to get any dogs walked today?
• This dog won’t toilet in the garden, so we’ll have to sneak out into the shade and hope they go quickly.
• This one doesn’t have a garden, so another quick toilet break instead of a proper walk.

Then there’s the spaniels… absolutely no chill whatsoever. 😂
You can encourage them to relax all you want, but outside means GO GO GO in their minds.

Garden visits sound simple until playtime turns into zoomies and pacing around because they don’t understand the concept of “please conserve energy”.

Paddling pools become the best invention ever.
Frozen water bottles end up in rabbit hutches.
Fans on. Curtains closed.
Constant bowl refills.
Checking temperatures every five minutes like we’re on the weather team.

Then we finally get one day of normal temperatures… before the whole cycle starts again tomorrow. 😅

It’s not easy being a dog walker and pet carer in this weather, but keeping animals safe will always come first. ❤️
