I stepped into look after this gorgeous boy very last minute after the owners were let down whilst already on holiday 🥲

Ken is deaf and so of course the world can seem even more frightening to him to navigate, especially with new people. I was entering his safe space and he had no prior warning of hearing me, before he was faced with me up close. Can you imagine how scary that must be, not just for cats, but for any animals, and humans too.

Whenever i found Ken asleep or to gather his attention without startling him, it is very important to gently blow on deaf cats to wake them, rather than touching. It gives them less of a fright and i could do this from further away, allowing him to wake, gather his bearings, notice me and then i would offer a hand sniff/stroke. He then became more and more comfortable and by the end of the week was my little shadow everywhere i walked, flopped over infront of me at every opportunity and took fusses at every chance he got.

Going racing right in with any cats and expecting the best outcome isnt the way to go. Lots of patience, baby steps, accomodating their needs and eventually gaining their trust fully. Cats are wonderful ~ they are just often very misunderstood 🐈‍⬛

Every single time i'm met with unique teeny meows, constant flops, fusses adored & she then hops up straight onto my lap after her food with no hesitation... then proceeds to turn 20 times whilst throwing herself up against my chest and staring up at me with that adorable little face, making my heart MELT over and over and over again 🥹
