On Friday we said hello to the gorgeous Ozzy who is 4 weeks post op grade 4 IVDD. Ozzy had a full assessment with our clinical lead Sarah Keith , we then used INDIBA over the surgical site and did some land based physio . Ozzy and his mum were then given their homework for the week. You’ve got this handsome boy.🐾🐾🥰

What happens when two rescue organisations come together for Dachshunds in need?

A wonderful weekend of collaboration at Dachshund Rescue UK HQ The Elms

Last weekend we were delighted to welcome members of The Red Foundation to The Elms Rehabilitation Centre, the home of Dachshund Rescue UK’s specialist hydrotherapy and physiotherapy facilities.

The Elms was purpose built to support dogs recovering from IVDD and other mobility challenges, and is run by a team of fully qualified veterinary physiotherapists who provide a range of specialist therapies including:
• Hydrotherapy
• Massage and therapeutic stretching
• LASER therapy
• Pulsed magnetic field therapy
• Tailored remedial exercise programmes
• Holistic rehabilitation support

Rescue work never stops. Every week Dachshunds arrive needing support, care and rehabilitation before they can move forward to their next chapter.

It was a real pleasure to spend time with the team from The Red Foundation, sharing knowledge, experiences and a common passion for helping dogs who need us most.

Collaboration like this matters. By working together, supporting one another and sharing expertise, we can help even more Dachshunds receive the rehabilitation, care and second chances they deserve.

A big thank you to the TRF team for visiting — we look forward to continuing to work together to support dogs on their road to recovery. 🐾

Millie has the highest grade (grade V) of IVDD. She is paralysed with no deep pain sensation. She has been coming to the centre for a couple of months, after being referred by and every single week she does something to surprise us and her owner. We are working on spinal walking, which is walking using the dogs’s reflexes, rather than a conscious communication between the brain and spinal cord. In this clip she is also wearing some”toe-ups” that we have made for her, to stop her from knuckling over.
