While humans have sweat glands all over our skin, cats are almost entirely covered in fur, which makes traditional sweating impossible. 🐈
Instead, they have eccrine sweat glands located in their paw pads. 🐾
How it Works 🔽
💦The "Damp Print" Phenomenon: On a very hot day or during a stressful trip to the vet, you might actually see little damp paw prints on tiles or exam tables. That is literally cat sweat!
🐈A "Mini" Cooling System: Because the surface area of their paws is so small, sweating isn't their primary way to stay cool. It’s more of a backup system.
😼Pheromone Messaging: Sweating through the paws also serves a social purpose. Those damp prints leave behind a scent that tells other cats, "I was here, and I was a bit stressed.
