This isn’t meant to shame or single anyone out. It’s about awareness and respect in a shared space. Gyms are used by people of all ages, backgrounds, and confidence levels, and everyone deserves to feel comfortable while they’re there.
Basic hygiene matters more than people realise. Strong body odour can make a space unpleasant and distracting for others, especially in an enclosed environment where people are breathing heavily and focusing on their training.
Large groups occupying equipment for long periods of time, particularly when filming or socialising, can make the gym feel inaccessible. Not everyone feels confident asking to work in or waiting around, and long equipment monopolisation can disrupt others’ workouts.
Loud phone conversations can also be distracting. Many people use the gym as a place to decompress, focus, or have some quiet time for themselves. Keeping noise levels reasonable helps maintain an environment where everyone can concentrate.
For many women, the gym already comes with a level of anxiety or self-consciousness. Small things that might seem harmless to some can have a bigger impact on others’ comfort and confidence.
This is simply a reminder that gyms are shared spaces. Being mindful of hygiene, time, volume, and the space we take up helps create a more welcoming environment for everyone.
Going forward, I’m choosing to protect my training space and my comfort — and I won’t stay silent when basic respect is missing.
