One of the biggest misconceptions about being a dog trainer is that our own dogs are perfectly behaved 24/7.
The reality is that dog trainers don’t have “perfect” dogs.. we have dogs. Dogs with personalities, quirks, preferences, bad habits, and days where they’d rather ignore us completely!
Training isn’t about creating robotic obedience. It’s about building communication, trust, and understanding between dogs and their owners. Even the most experienced trainers have dogs that make mistakes, get distracted, bark at the wrong moment, or decide that today’s training session isn’t high on their list of priorities.
In fact, having dogs that challenge us often makes us better trainers. It keeps us learning, adapting, and understanding exactly what our clients are going through.
My own dogs aren’t perfect, and I wouldn’t expect them to be. They’re loved, well cared for, and trained to help them navigate the world successfully – and that’s what truly matters.
Remember, progress over perfection. Every dog is an individual, and the goal should never be a flawless dog, but a happy, confident one with a strong relationship with their owner. 🐾
