Hurdy Gurdys beak is finally under control 🙌 👏 😍

She came in to us with malocclusion, resulting in her lower beak growing out, then up over the bottom of her top beak. This had created damage and needing slow work to correct. With a gentle hand, a dremel, and a lot of small corrections, I can proudly say she is managing it by herself with appropriate chews and toys ❤️

She'll likely need trims of her top beak as she does have slight brittle beak left and we don't want a fracture, but look at her now 😍

Jambon 🥓

Jambon arrived yesterday, he isn't a feral pigeon, he's a racing/homing type bird who is actually only a baby despite his large size.

He is what we call a squeaker, when pidgey puberty hits, just like with humans, their voice changes, they go from squeakers, to a honking sound until they get their adult coo through. He still has a few yellow tufts left to fall off too, he is a big pigeon already as a squeaker, easily twice the size of ferals that come in of similar age and has that classic roman nose that young racers have.

He was found in someone's garden over Haughton in Darlington and seems to have been hand reared, being incredibly friendly and barely eating enough for himself but wanting crop fed with the other young birds.

If he is yours please message us ❤️

He has some soft tissue damage to his left leg but that will heal. He is safe here if nobody comes forwards :) He also has some really bad poops, watery, and very small, so I'll send for a f***l but I am starting him on antibiotics and deworming as a precaution.

I am in need of puppy pads, pigeon corn, crop feeding tubes and 30ml syringes, this recent baby surge has really depleted my supplies and I buy them religiously 🥲.

Where can I get fitted wellies? 🙈😅

Normal sizes don't fit me typically, I have skinny feet and small ankles 🙃. I don't want to spend a fortune but need them for hosing the yard as none of my current shoes are waterproof.

1 young feral and 4 young wood pigeons off today ❤️

I feel that I am just biding my time... How dare I invade his bathing 😂

Sorted 😊❤️

Is anyone free for a collection? It's a young pigeon outside splash ts18 1TY

Finder couldn't take it with them as they have children so he's still there.

To the left of the entrance, it is injured so should be an easy catch

This mornings call was a sad one, this bird would have been like this at this lake all its life, and this didn't happen overnight either, why nobody else reported it is upsetting me.

A report of a Swan with what the finders though was a broken wing at Hardwick Hall, though that's not what's going on here.

What's happened to this cygnets wing, is a condition called angel wing.

Angel wing is a condition where the last joint of the wing twists outward, it can be corrected with early intervention, though sometimes the damage when left is too great.

The twist causes the flight feathers to stick out at an unnatural angle and they get damaged, hence why this one is bleeding, it's getting its adult feathers in and simultaneously destroying them.

The deformity is generally not painful but prevents the bird from flying, making it unable to migrate or escape predators.

This was a simple catch, and the parents didn't put up much fight, I think they knew their youngster isn't right, a swab hook, two people, and two large blankets/towels, we got them straight away.

This bird will be transferred to Pawz and then onto the waterfowl sanctuary for treatment.

To help support us, any donations towards supplies, travel, and medical treatments is graciously accepted. ❤️

Donation call ❤️

Do you have any spare towels, blankets or duvets that you need rid of?
We'll take them! We use them for all differing reasons and species of bird.
Large thick blankets, sheets and duvets are great for waterfowl, larger birds, and injured birds that need support under treatment.
Smaller towels and thin bedding we use for cages to keep them comfortable on soft surfaces, however sometimes with issues like canker, which we have had a lot of intakes witb recently due to an outbreak, I do not feel comfortable washing and dispose of them instead.

Please pm us if you can help, drop off is preferred 🥰😊

Featuring Donut, the bird who I posted up earlier that has been shot in a comfortable loaf position

I just want to say a big thank you to Hatch Luncheonette for their donation after their teapot sale ❤️
We really appreciate it 🥰, and so do their pigeons!
We took ten more domestics that had unfortunately been left with no home after their owner was taken into care so the food we bought is very much needed!

This is one of the birds I collected a few days ago where two birds next door to each other had been shot.

They're doing well thankfully, eating, drinking, perching, moving about. However theres no sign of a pellet or casing when ive been flushing the wound.
So I may be taking this one into the vets too for further investigation.
You can't leave lead shot in a bird, it leeches into their systems and ultimately kills them that way, so we need to make sure that the pellet isn't going to cause any issues.

We need help with food, vet bills, supplies and transportation, we fill up just as fast as we release and adopt, and a bird like this, has no chance of being released so it is a long term resident.

5 of our rollers went to their new homes yesterday and those spaces are already taken back up by the 10 fancies, along with other pens/cages I have now made up to accommodate

If that doesn't put into perspective how busy we are, I dont know what does...

Any donations, even if its £2 from 100 each of you, would give this bird and others a fighting chance. I also need a top up on antibiotics as we are having a lot of Canker cases that use a different strain of antibiotics than my go tos baytril or synulox.

Bird feed is a big expense too, right now I am going through 20+ kg of seed every few days!
