For me, that starts with how we choose to train our dogs.
Every dog deserves to feel safe, understood and respected. Training should never be about fear, force, intimidation or causing distress. True learning happens when trust is built, communication is clear and compassion leads the way!

In a world where aversive tools and outdated techniques are still promoted, I choose to be part of the change. I choose patience over punishment. Understanding over intimidation. Trust over compliance through fear.

When I started my training journey many years ago I made a promise to myself: I will not use tools or methods that cause physical or emotional harm, no matter how popular or widely accepted they may be. I will continue to advocate for force-free, fear-free training and help dogs and their people build relationships founded on kindness and mutual respect 🥰

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it begins with the choices we make every single day.

Be the voice for those who cannot speak.
Be the advocate for humane training.
Be the change.

Bringing home a new puppy is an exciting time, but those first few months are also when they learn the habits and behaviours that can last a lifetime!

Early puppy training isn’t just about teaching sit and stay… it’s about building strong foundations for a happy, confident & well-mannered dog. Training from a young age helps puppies learn how to focus, socialise appropriately, cope with new experiences & understand what is expected of them in everyday life 🐶

The earlier you start, the easier it is to prevent common issues such as jumping up, pulling on the lead, excessive barking, poor recall & unwanted chewing. It also helps strengthen the bond between you and your puppy through positive, rewarding experiences 🐾

My puppy classes are designed to be fun, supportive and suitable for puppies of all breeds. You’ll learn practical skills you can use every day, while giving your puppy valuable socialisation opportunities in a safe environment.

If you’ve recently welcomed a puppy into your family and would like to set them up for success, I’d love to help!
We have spaces on our next puppy course starting:

- 28th June running for four weeks

Feel free to send me a message for more information about upcoming classes or just to have a chat about puppies! 😍

Investing time in training while they are small and squishy can make a lifetime of difference 🥰

❤️ Things I love to see from dog owners ❤️

Small choices make a big difference in how safe, understood and supported dogs feel in everyday life. Three of my favourites:

✨ Using longlines responsibly ✨
A longline isn’t a “drag it behind them and hope” tool, it’s a safety line. When used well, it gives dogs freedom to explore while still preventing rehearsals of unsafe behaviour (like running into roads, chasing or overwhelming greetings). Good longline handling = confidence for the dog and peace of mind for the human.

✨ Crossing the road to avoid greetings ✨
Not every dog wants interaction and that’s okay. Choosing to cross the road helps your dog feel heard instead of forced. Every time you support their emotional state instead of pushing through it, you’re building trust and teaching them that you’ll advocate for them when things feel too much.

✨ Choosing empathy over ego ✨
Letting go of “what it should look like” and focusing on what your dog actually needs changes everything. Empathy builds communication. Ego builds pressure. And relationships built on understanding are always stronger than ones built on control.
It’s not about perfect training.

It’s about thoughtful living with a dog in front of you 🧡

Nerd info incoming 🐾

Last week I came back from a two-day field work course as part of my canine training instructor programme, and I also met most of my cohort in person for the first time last week, along with my tutors who are guiding us through the course 🥰

There’s something really grounding about stepping out of online learning and into real-time, practical work with people who are all moving in the same direction… learning, questioning, refining and trying to do better for dogs!

For me, this kind of continued education isn’t optional. It’s a core part of how I show up for my clients. The more I invest in my own learning, the more I can offer training that is informed, ethical and actually useful in the real world, not just theory, but accessible support that people can use day to day!

One of the biggest things I value in this journey is the code of conduct we work to. It’s one I fully align with and actively adhere to in my own practice: welfare comes first. Always! That means the emotional and physical wellbeing of the dog is never an afterthought or a trade-off for ‘quick results’

Better educated trainers mean better outcomes for dogs and their humans. And that’s the standard I’m committed to keeping 🐾❤️

As dog guardians, it’s so easy to pour everything into our dogs while putting ourselves last. Training sessions, walks, enrichment, work, family, life admin… it all adds up.

But here’s the thing: your dog doesn’t need a perfect guardian, they need a present one.

Rest is not laziness.
Taking a break is not failing your dog.
Self-care is part of being a good guardian.

When we’re overwhelmed and running on empty, our patience gets shorter, our stress levels rise, and even simple moments with our dogs can start to feel harder than they should!

Some days, the most productive thing you can do is slow down:
🐾 Take the pressure off training
🐾 Go for a calm sniffy walk
🐾 Have a cuddle on the sofa
🐾 Let both of you decompress

Your nervous system matters too.
A regulated & rested human helps create a calmer, safer dog. 💛

Marker words are one of the clearest ways to communicate with your dog in training. They tell your dog the exact moment they made the right choice, even before the reward arrives.

Using a marker also gives you time to reach for food, toys or praise without losing timing. That clarity builds confidence, speeds up learning, and helps your dog understand training without frustration!

A simple “yes” can make a huge difference when it’s used consistently 🐾
