🐾⭐A tired dog is not a good dog. A fulfilled dog is a good dog. And there is a massive difference between the two.🐾⭐

If you’re reading this right now, heart racing because you recognise every single word — you are not alone.

For a long time, I thought my German Shepherd was broken. The lunging on walks, the barking at everything that moved, the sheer frustration… it felt like a never-ending battle. I was exhausted, and honestly, so was my boy.

Here’s what nobody told me: my dog was getting plenty of exercise. Miles of it. Every single day. And it made almost no difference.

Because what he was starving for wasn’t physical — it was mental. He didn’t just need to move his body. He needed to use his mind. He needed a job. He was a working dog living a bored dog’s life, and he was screaming about it the only way he knew how.

⭐The lunging wasn’t aggression. It was frustration.
⭐The reactivity wasn’t a flaw. It was an unfulfilled drive.
⭐The chaos wasn’t who he was. It was what happened when a brilliant mind had nothing to do.

The moment I understood that — everything changed.

Scent work. Focused training. Real mental challenges that made him think, problem-solve, and feel like the capable, intelligent animal he was built to be. I watched a dog I had nearly written off transform into one of the most settled, switched-on, joyful dogs I have ever known. He stopped following me from room to room. He stopped looking for trouble. He finally had peace — because he finally had purpose.

That dog changed my life.

He didn’t just get better. He inspired me to become a trainer. Because I knew there were thousands of owners out there, just like I was — exhausted, confused, and on the edge — who just needed someone to tell them the truth.

Your dog is not broken. They are not a lost cause. They are not trying to ruin your life.

They are just waiting for you to give them one worth living.

This is why I do what I do. And I would love to help you get there.

If this hit home, drop a 🐾 in the comments, or just send me a message Let’s talk about your dog. Change is not just possible — it’s waiting for you.

Tired of quick fixes that fade after a month?

The more people I work with, the more I see dedicated dog owners led down a frustrating path — spending thousands over the years with little to no real change. You end up either confining your dog away from the world or developing a high dependency on a trainer just to manage daily life.

I want neither of those things for you.

My goal is simple: I want you in and out, fully equipped with a brand-new skillset. I want you and your dog to finally experience the life you deserve and have always dreamed of. Picture your dog off-lead, running free, and confidently exploring the world — rather than being stuck on a tight leash, avoiding everything in sight.

Our dog training programs are designed to create real, long-lasting results. We don’t do temporary patches that force you to start over and spend more money a month later. Our methods work because we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach — we tailor everything specifically to your dog’s unique needs, because every dog is different and deserves to be treated that way.

The truth is, setting boundaries is often the very thing that sets a reactive dog free. Real kindness isn’t about feeding a narrative that clearly isn’t working — it’s about providing the honest feedback and structure both you and your dog need to grow and move forward together.

When you build a solid foundation, the rest naturally follows. That’s why our previous clients are absolutely over the moon with their dogs’ transformations.

The Power of Play — Done Correctly

One of the most overlooked tools in dog training is also one of the most powerful: play. Not just any play — structured, intentional play done correctly. When you get this right, everything changes.

Play builds an unbreakable bond and deepens the relationship between you and your dog in a way that nothing else can. It creates a truly fulfilled dog — one with sharp focus, channelled drive, and a genuine desire to work with you. It sharpens obedience, teaches incredible impulse control, and so much more. A dog that knows how to play well with you is a dog that listens, engages, and thrives in every environment.

Play isn’t a reward. It’s a foundation.

Our Training Programs

We offer structured programs built around consistency — because consistency is the key to everything:

3 Weeks · 3 Sessions Per Week — A focused, steady introduction to structure and real communication with your dog.

3 Weeks · 4 Sessions Per Week — Increased frequency for faster momentum and deeper reinforcement in a shorter timeframe.

4 Weeks · 3 Sessions Per Week — Extended duration for more thorough, lasting behavioural change at a sustainable pace.

4 Weeks · 4 Sessions Per Week — Our most comprehensive option. Maximum consistency, maximum results, for those who are fully committed to a complete transformation.

We also offer Intensive Block Sessions in blocks of 5, 7, and 10 — back-to-back sessions working with your dog every single day, because when it comes to true transformation, daily consistency is everything.

These programs are incredibly popular and spots fill up fast. With the summer sale now live, they are going even quicker — so if you have been thinking about it, now is the time to act.

☀️ Summer Special Offers ☀️

30% off all Training Programs — limited time, and with demand this high, spots won’t last long.

50% off initial Consultations — book yours today and take the very first step.

Think about it honestly. You want the dog you always dreamed of — the one you can take anywhere, walk confidently, and truly enjoy life with. But right now, every walk feels like a battle. You start avoiding certain routes, cutting walks short, booking private fields just to give your dog some space. And the less stimulation and fulfilment your dog gets, the worse the behaviour becomes. It’s a cycle that only gets harder to break the longer it goes on.

That cycle ends here.

Real change is possible. It happens every single week with the owners I work with. And it can happen for you too — but only if you take that first step.

A personal note from me:

I genuinely love what I do. Every single time I see a dog transform, every time an owner messages me to say their walks are enjoyable again, every time a dog reaches its full potential and a family gets their life back — that is everything. That is why I do this.

Helping dogs and their owners find that connection, that freedom, and that joy is not just my job. It is my passion. And I will pour everything I have into helping you get there.

If you are ready for real change — I am ready for you.

Are you living with a working dog who’s been forced into a desk job?

If you share your home with a German Shepherd, a Malinois, a Kelpie, spaniel, collie or any high-drive breed, you already know they aren’t your average pet. These dogs were selectively bred for generations to herd, hunt, guard, and run for hours. They possess high drive, boundless energy, and incredible intelligence.

But so often, we bring these magnificent athletes into our modern lives and expect them to thrive on a 20-minute pavement walk and a stuffed toy. It’s like hiring a Formula 1 driver to do the school run.

If you are currently dealing with destruction, constant barking, fence fighting, or lunging on walks — please take a deep breath and hear this: You do not have a bad dog. And just as importantly, you are not alone, and you are not failing.

You simply have a dog with nowhere to put the intense energy they were literally designed to have. The job was taken away, but their genetic drive remains.

The beautiful news? You don’t need to rehome them. You don’t need to feel hopeless. You just need to give them a lifestyle that respects exactly what they are.

When we start fulfilling their genetic needs — through structured play, true off-lead freedom, and a purposeful “job” that challenges both their brain and their body — the chaotic behaviours you are struggling with will begin to fade. They will finally have a reason to be calm.

And let’s be clear — fulfilment doesn’t have to mean gun dog training, bite work, or specialist disciplines.

It simply means meeting your dog’s physical and mental needs, consistently, every single day. Enrichment activities, structured training, off-lead exercise, scent work, problem-solving games — these are all forms of fulfilment. You don’t need a field or a farm. You need commitment, consistency, and an understanding of the dog in front of you.

If you do want to explore working disciplines with your breed — brilliant. That passion, channelled in the right direction, will transform your dog. But if that path isn’t for you, that is absolutely fine. What matters most is this: before you brought that dog home, you made a commitment to them. Honour it.

A working breed is not a lifestyle accessory. They are a daily responsibility that demands your time, your energy, your consistency, and your understanding. Give them that — alongside structured training and genuine enrichment — and what you will find on the other side is remarkable: a calmer, more focused, more obedient dog, living their absolute best life.

That is the dog they were always capable of being. They just needed you to meet them where they are.

Stop trying to force your brilliant working breed into the mold of a low-energy companion. Let’s respect their genetics and fulfil their potential — together.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure of where to start, or simply want guidance on how to give your dog the life they deserve, we are here. You do not have to navigate this alone.

Send us a message today, and let’s get to work. Your dog is ready. Are you?

Every dog deserves to feel safe in the world—even when that world is fading into silence.

Welcome the newest member of the Paws at Work Dog Training family: the gorgeous and resilient Marsali! 🐾

Marsali is a beautiful rescue with an unknown backstory, and her journey with us presents a unique and deeply rewarding challenge. Her devoted owners initially believed she was completely deaf. we discovered in our first session that while she isn’t entirely without hearing, she is experiencing significant auditory struggles.

It is entirely understandable why the outside world feels so overwhelming to her. As her hearing has gradually deteriorated, a natural sense of panic and vulnerability has set in. While she is an absolute angel inside the home, stepping outside triggers her anxiety—resulting in pulling on the lead and reacting defensively toward other dogs. She has been trying to navigate a confusing world, living in a state of stress rather than joy.

But that narrative changes now. At Paws at Work, we are fiercely dedicated to helping every single dog, no matter the obstacles they face. We believe that every dog deserves the freedom to simply be a dog.

Our mission is to build a rock-solid foundation of trust, showing Marsali that she is safe, secure, and has absolutely nothing to fear. Because she is a brilliant working breed who genuinely loves to learn, we are adapting our methods to speak her language. We are introducing high-pitch whistle training and clear visual hand cues to give her the guidance and reassurance she craves.

As part of our tailored approach to Marsali’s unique needs, we will also be introducing a vibration collar as a safe and effective communication tool. For dogs with hearing loss, a vibration collar is an invaluable asset — not as a punishment, but as a gentle, clear signal that bridges the gap where sound cannot reach. Used correctly, it becomes a lifeline for recall and off-lead safety, giving Marsali the freedom to explore and enjoy the world while always knowing we are there to guide her home. This is about opening up a new channel of communication, one she can feel and trust.

Today’s session is all about decompression and fun. Rather than throwing her into the deep end, we are keeping her away from her triggers and focusing entirely on building her confidence. Yesterday, I let her off the lead to show her that I trust her; now, my job is to earn her trust in return, helping her navigate the world with confidence.

Our ultimate goal is clear: to give this wonderful family the peaceful, stress-free walks they’ve been dreaming of, and to give Marsali the joyful, off-lead freedom she so richly deserves.

We are incredibly proud to be part of Marsali’s journey toward a brighter, more confident future.

Now, the hard work begins. 💪✨

If you’re only giving love, your dog might be missing what they truly need.

Love is easy. It’s natural. It comes from the heart. But leadership is what gives your dog direction and security. Leadership means consistency. It means knowing when to stay calm instead of emotional. It means giving your dog trust and structure before affection. That’s not cold — that’s loving them in the way they understand best.

When you build a solid foundation, when you provide clear structure, the bond you share with your dog becomes profoundly stronger. Because you are finally fulfilling their true needs.

And here’s something people often overlook — play, when done correctly, is just as powerful. Give your dog a positive outlet for that energy. Tug games, flirt poles, enrichment activities — these aren’t just fun, they are tools. Flirt poles are incredible for dogs that love a chase, channelling that drive into something purposeful and rewarding. The right kind of play builds confidence, deepens trust, and strengthens your connection in ways that nothing else can.

When you meet your dog’s needs — structure, leadership, enrichment, and play — you will notice incredible, lasting behavioural changes. You will see a dog that is calmer, happier, and more at ease in the world. Because a fulfilled dog is a happy dog, and a happy dog is a calm dog.

And then? The real magic begins.

Road trips. Hill walks. Adventures together. A dog you can take anywhere, do anything with, and trust completely. That is the life you both deserve — and it is closer than you think.

You want real change. You want lasting results. You want that amazing bond. All you need to do is take that one step and finally give them the life they deserve.

You don’t need to feel stuck anymore. We are here, we are passionate, and we are deeply driven to help dogs and the people who love them.

Get in touch today. Let’s start your new journey together. 🐾

🐶🐾Dreading every walk. Embarrassed at the park. Feeling like you’ve tried everything and nothing sticks. Sound familiar? It doesn’t have to stay that way.🐾🐶

Are you ready to truly transform your dog’s life? 🐾

If you’re dreaming of peaceful walks, exciting adventures together, and a deeper, more trusting bond with your best friend, you are in the right place. But let me be completely honest with you—this journey requires dedication.

I’ve seen firsthand how my training programs and block sessions have helped so many of my past clients achieve incredible, long-lasting results. We don’t do quick fixes here. Quick fixes just mean the same issues will pop back up a month later. Instead, we work together to meet your dog’s fundamental needs, build a rock-solid foundation of trust, and create a genuinely happy, fulfilled dog. When you meet their needs, the behaviors naturally change.

But there is one crucial thing you need to bring to the table: a true commitment to doing the work.

❌ This is NOT for you if:
• You’re going to rely solely on our sessions and not put the practice in at home.
• You aren’t willing to fully commit to helping your dog succeed.
• You can’t be bothered to consistently fulfill your dog’s daily needs.

✅ But this IS absolutely for you if:
• You want to see a real, lasting transformation in your dog.
• You want to enjoy better, stress-free walks and go on amazing adventures together.
• You are willing to put in the effort, be consistent every single day, and truly show up for your dog.

To help you get there, I offer structured support tailored to your specific needs:

🎓 Comprehensive Training Programs
Designed for deep, focused work. I offer dedicated programs for both Basic Dog Training and specialized support for Reactive Dogs.

📅 Flexible Block Sessions
Perfect for targeted progress. You can book in blocks of 5, 7, or 10 sessions to ensure we have the time to build those long-lasting habits.

Are you ready to commit, take that step, and help your dog live their absolute best life?

🐾🐶Buster is Back — And the Work Begins Now! 🐾🐶

This handsome boy is officially in for his training this week, and his dedicated parents have opted for daily, back-to-back block sessions to build solid consistency right from the start.

If you caught our previous post, you might remember that Buster is a lovable, big goofball. However, he currently struggles with impulse control—if he sees something he wants or gets excited about, he goes for it. This translates to pulling heavily on the lead and getting over-stimulated when he spots another dog. He is also carrying a little extra weight, so increasing his physical exercise and providing engaging mental stimulation are top priorities to help him thrive and fulfill his natural needs.

This week, we are stripping everything back to the basics. We are breaking things down to ensure his core needs are being met, with the ultimate goal of building a rock-solid foundation that will eventually give him the off-lead freedom to safely enjoy just being a dog.

In today’s session, we focused on recall, leash manners (which were virtually non-existent, but we are making progress!), patience, and establishing clear boundaries. We also introduced marker words, specifically “yes” and “no.” Buster had not yet learned what “no” means, which meant allowing him to make a few mistakes so we could clearly communicate those boundaries. Once he understood, we were able to build him back up, set him up for success, and reward his good choices.

Was he perfect? Absolutely not. There were hiccups, he tested his boundaries, and he chose not to listen a few times. But to all the dog owners out there experiencing the same thing—that is exactly where real foundational training begins! It is all about correcting the missteps, rewarding the positive choices, and occasionally giving a jackpot reward when everything clicks.

Buster is a cheeky boy, full of fun, and he simply wants to play. But because he is a big, strong dog, establishing manners and boundaries is absolutely crucial for his safety and happiness. The more we can fulfill his physical and mental needs, the more this wonderful dog is going to shine.

We are so proud of his effort today. See you tomorrow, bud! 🐶✨

🐾⭐The Secret to a Perfect Recall: Why Randomness is Your Best Friend🐾⭐

Have you ever felt that familiar knot of anxiety before a walk even begins? For many dog owners, walks can feel like a stressful chore rather than a joyful bonding experience. If you find yourself wishing the walk was over before you’ve even stepped out the door, you are not alone. Let’s change that narrative and bring the joy back to your daily strolls.

Did you know that calling your dog randomly, when there are absolutely no distractions around, is one of the most powerful ways to improve their recall?

Here is a common trap we often fall into: we only use our recall command when we spot a distraction—another dog, a squirrel, or a cyclist. But think about it from your dog’s perspective. If the only time they hear their name or the “come” command is when something exciting or stressful is happening, your recall actually becomes a warning bell. It alerts them that a distraction is present, making them highly alert and far more likely to react.

Instead, let’s flip the script. Every time you are out with your dog, practice your recall frequently and entirely at random.

Make it incredibly rewarding. When they come bounding back to you for no apparent reason other than you called, surprise them! Sometimes, offer a “jackpot” reward—five or six treats delivered back-to-back. This level of unpredictability and high reward makes coming back to you the most exciting part of their walk.

Most importantly, make it fun. We want our dogs to want to be with us, not feel like they have to be. By building a history of positive, distraction-free recalls, you are teaching them that returning to you is always a wonderful choice.

When your dog is actively engaging with you, you are doing more than just training a behaviour; you are building a deeper, more resilient bond. You are giving them the fulfillment, guidance, and partnership they truly need and deserve.

You’ve got this. Every walk is a new opportunity to connect. Let’s make them look forward to being by your side just as much as you look forward to a peaceful, happy walk.

You wouldn’t sign up for a marathon today and expect to run 26 miles tomorrow, would you? 🏃‍♂️👟

Yet so often, we take a dog who struggles with pulling straight to the busiest park in town and expect them to walk perfectly on day one. When they struggle, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and disheartened. But here is the truth: your dog isn’t failing. You just skipped the steps between zero and the finish line. 🏁🐕

Dogs are contextual learners — they learn in pictures! A calm walk outside your house is a completely different “picture” to your dog than a walk through a crowded town centre. When the picture changes, the rules have to be re-learned. That’s not a problem — that’s just how their incredible brains work! 🧠💡

Here is the recipe for real, lasting success:

1️⃣ Start small — Can they walk calmly to the front gate? If not, that’s exactly where training begins.
2️⃣ Layer it up — Quiet street, slightly busier street, quiet park, busy park, town centre.
3️⃣ Don’t rush — Don’t move forward until the current level is solid. Progress is progress, no matter how small!

At Paws at Work Dog Training, we know that every dog and every owner is on their own unique journey. We are deeply supportive, compassionate, and completely dedicated to your success. We will be right there beside you, celebrating every single victory — no matter how small — and guiding you through every challenge along the way. 🎉🐾💙

You are not alone in this. Let’s build that solid foundation together.

Your dog isn’t being “naughty” — they’re trying to tell you something. 🐾

We see it all the time. The chewed furniture, the barking, the pulling on the lead. And the first instinct is to stop the behaviour. But behaviour is never the problem — it’s the message.

Every dog has 5 core needs. When even one of them is out of balance, their behaviour starts to break down. It’s not defiance. It’s communication.

And here’s something most people get wrong about play 👇

Throwing a ball isn’t really play. Repetitive fetch builds physical fitness — but it doesn’t build your relationship, develop your dog’s mind, or teach them anything about working with you.

Real play is interactive. It’s tug, scent games, chase, problem-solving and engagement-led training. Done right, play builds focus, impulse control, confidence — and a dog that genuinely wants to work with you.

The way you play with your dog is one of the most powerful training tools you will ever use.

If you’re struggling to understand what your dog is telling you, or you want to learn how to meet their needs properly — we’re here to help. Drop us a message and let’s get started. 🐕✨
