A big thank you to Liv at Rattilodgey Pet Sitting and Boarding for looking after our girls whilst we go away. Liv fitted us in at short notice and we are so very grateful for that. It's great to be able to connect with other boarders around the country, and even better when they can board your own rats! Though, being on the other side of boarding is a little bit scary; I'm hoping that this experience will help me be a better boarder for your rats. And I know already, that along with Jess's Ratty Rest I shall be recommending Rattilodgey to others as it's clear Liv really cares for her own rats so I know my girls are in good hands.

2025 is the year The Rat Nanny turns 3 years old!! A simple comment on a breeder page to help someone out whilst they went on holiday by looking after their rats, turned into The Rat Nanny.
I feel so privileged to be trusted by so many owners to give their rats a wonderful holiday in our home. I genuinely love all my guests as they all bring so much joy and happiness into our lives.
Thank you all for your continued support, and thank you for trusting me with your chaos potatoes.

This little chap called Dodo (😭) is looking for a ratirement home with other boy rats. He's in West Sussex (under an hour from me) so not far at all! If you can offer him a home, either comment below or PM me and I'll pop you in touch with his owner. Please make sure you read the info on him, no bad behaviour or anything like that, just so you know his owners are taking a rat owning break and just want the best home for their boy 🥰🥹

Along with rats staying for just over a week, we also looked after a jumping spider called Nova. Now I'm not a spider fan, however, this little beauty was only 2cm big, so I felt comfortable enough to chat to her every day. On her last day she kindly showed me her green and pink fangs and gave me a little wave.
Whilst I'm not comfortable looking after spiders that are bigger than Nova, please ask if I can accommodate any other creatures you may need care for as well as your beloved ratties.

Did you know that rats squeak at different sound frequencies? I didn't! We treated ourselves to a Bat Detector for our joint Christmas present this year, mainly for the rats but we'd like to hear our local bats too during the summer.
When rats are excited or happy they squeak at 50-60hz, but when they're scared or anxious they squeak at 20-30hz. We managed to capture an anxious squeak from one of our guests this morning when I gave them some boiled egg. She is an anxious rat but has been very brave with me for her holiday, as you can see Cashew has no fear about anything! 😁

One of the best things I've ever been given as a Christmas present; my steam cleaner! I use it not only for The Rat Room floor but on cages, the cat trees, basically anything a rat touches on free roam 😁
I also clean with Anigene and F10 but my steam cleaner gets used every time between clients too.

We now have two SRS95's for our guests to use. We are still a 1 mischief only boarding home but we know that sometimes mischiefs can have squabbles so need two cages, and we want to be able to offer our guests the best accommodation we can. A big thank you to Jess at Jess's Ratty Rest for spotting this second cage for sale near us.

At the moment these cages are in half due to the requirements for our next guests who arrive next week 🥰

Edited to say; that the new cage has been thoroughly cleaned using Anigene before use!

Today is a sad day as we bid farewell to our trusty first cage Bertha (don't ask me why she's named that, she just is). Bertha came to us secondhand from Little Gremlins Rescues (we had rescues from them years ago), we got her and made a donation. We had taken an 11 month break from rats and decided to start again so needed a cage but didn't have the funds to buy brand new. So Bertha will have her rust patches covered with Hammerite and I'll be selling her at a low price to anyone who wants her.
A big thank you to Jess at Jess's Ratty Rest who spotted an SRS95 for sale near us to replace Bertha.

I would just like to remind all my lovely owners that this is a really important part of my T&C's;

"If your pet becomes ill with a condition that they have been previously been treated for (but you have not told us about) then your current boarding will terminate, transferring your pet into the care of a vet or your emergency contact. You will have to pay for all veterinary fees and you will have to pay for the remaining boarding days."

I've recently had a situation where a rat has become poorly with something that they've had many times before but I was not made aware of. The illness is so contagious if not dealt with correctly then it could literally cost me my business as I would be unable to allow any other rats into my home.

I already have very strict cleaning protocols to ensure my guests safety and happiness but these have now become even more stringent in light of recent events (how I've managed to do more cleaning I have no idea).

Rats get poorly with anything and everything, it's fine; I don't mind a poorly ratty! But please tell me about their previous health issues!! I do not want to close my business due to your lack of communication with me. It would genuinely break my heart if I had to close the doors on The Rat Nanny.
