There's 13 rosettes up for grabs!
Join us on Saturday 14th June for a friendly, beginner-level Nosework Games competition (postcode is BS49 5JP).

This Level 1 event is perfect for dogs and handlers who are new to scentwork or just want to build confidence in a relaxed, supportive setting. We’ll be searching for Gun Oil in three different games:
– Distractions & Blanks
– All Clear
– Distance

Timeslots are arranged in groups of three so reactive or sensitive dogs can take part comfortably.

Whether you’re aiming for a rosette or just keen to have a go, it would be great to see you there 😊

We ran another NNA Foundation Level Trial today at Goblin Combe Lodge. Eight teams competed and it was great to see some lovely teamwork and handling, especially with some dogs that were a bit anxious. We got very lucky with the weather too, with the torrential downpour catching us during the interior searches and stopping just in time for the exteriors! We had a few teams earn their first badges in certain elements they've been struggling with, which is always nice to see too.

The Reserve place was won by Hilary and Gertie, while the Winner was Beth with Sprout! Congratulations to them, and well done to everyone who came!

So, three goldendoodles walk into The Byre…

No punchline here—just Ludo, Blaise and Theo, each bringing their own unique doodle energy to the start of their scentwork journeys at Scent Quest.

Same breed, totally different personalities, and that’s exactly what makes scentwork so fascinating. It’s not one-size-fits-all. Each dog gets to work in a way that suits them, building confidence, focus and fun along the way.

I’m excited to see how their journeys take shape, each at their own pace, in their own way.

Know someone with a doodle who’d love this kind of mental workout? Tag them and we’ll get them started too!

I really loved getting to see a Hungarian pumi doing scentwork at our recent Easter Mystery searches! The variety of breeds that can excel at the sport is one of the things that makes scentwork so special. In this clip Oddbod does a great job working in a distracting woodland environment to find the correct numbers for the code to unlock the door to the next search area. (My fave part is how he works the third number, which I sneakily put outside the fire pit area 🤫). Well done, Oddbod!

🎉 Big congratulations to Jasper! 🎉

This clever boy has just earned his NNA Foundation Level ribbon and certificate after passing his Odour Recognition Test (ORT). He is the first shelter dog to achieve this milestone with the The National Nosework Association! 🐾

Jasper has been practicing hard with his wonderful carers at Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary, as well as during his scentwork lessons with us. Huge well done to the team at Holly Hedge for all your incredible work 😄

Even better, Jasper now has potential adopters and may soon be heading to his forever home. His new family are excited to continue his scentwork journey too!

No windows open. No fans. No heating. Just a warm, sunny room next to a cool, dark kitchen. And yet… look at those hearts move.

That turbulent sway is caused by invisible air currents created purely by temperature differences.

Now imagine being a dog, trying to follow a scent in this space. The odour doesn’t stay still or travel in a straight line. It drifts, rises, sinks, and twists—sometimes moving far from the source.

This is part of what makes scentwork such a fascinating challenge. It’s not just about a strong nose, but about solving a puzzle shaped by shifting air.

Have you ever noticed your dog working out a tricky scent trail indoors? What do you think was affecting it?

Yamper and his humans joined me for a one-to-one scentwork session last week, and he did an amazing job! His owner had already made great progress training at home and wanted some tips and troubleshooting to take their skills to the next level. With a few tweaks and some tailored guidance, they’re all set to keep moving forward—plus, Yamper went home absolutely knackered!

If you’re training at home but could use a little support, one-to-one sessions are a great way to refine your skills and get personalised advice. Get in touch to find out more!
