WORLD PET MEMORIAL DAY

Please feel free to share a picture or some words to remember your beloved pet today and always 💔🌈

I will go first -

J O H N N Y - my beloved 1st dog, a Rottweiler. So friendly and loving. He made me laugh every single day we were always playing games and being silly together. Johnny was the one who taught me about true unconditional love 🖤

L O U I S - beloved Bullmastiff, my King Louis. Rehomed at approx 3 I lived across the road from him, he was friends with Johnny. Louis made me feel like the pied piper every walk the amount of children and people who followed him for a cuddle. 56kg lump of love. Louis was the one that taught me to live each day like it’s the last (9 lives and all!) 💛

G E O R G E - my beloved 3rd boy, a Rottweiler. The dog happiest with 2 balls and 7 sticks in his mouth at all times! Very quirky and nervous of the weirdest things. Baby George, the youngest of his pals, taught me how to be patient with someone’s emotions and adjust accordingly 🧡

FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR BELOVED PET OR SIMPLY POST A PICTURE 👇

Let’s remember just how special and unique each pet is 🩶

Pet loss is so hard 💔

If you’re struggling after the loss of a pet, please know that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. To reach out to someone, to talk about your feelings when you are vulnerable, takes real courage.

You don’t have to carry your grief alone. I will always listen and support as best I can. And if I am not the right person I will try find the one that fits you best 🩶

Why Losing A Pet Can Feel Worse Than Losing A Person If you have ever whispered to yourself, “Losing my dog hurt more than losing some people,” you are not broken, heartless, or dramatic. You are just telling the truth about a relationship most of society still does not know how to talk about. I...

But when you are grieving the loss of your pet, time can stand still for some or it can feel longer for others since their pet was here. It’s so hard to take notice of the small beauty that is around us each day 💔

You may be all the time consumed in caring for a poorly pet. Engrossed in caring for, vets visits, care plans and decision making. Experiencing very real anticipatory grief 💔

Please know if you need support there is help available. Please don’t feel you need to deal with this alone 🩶

We can all accept that no two pet owners grieve the same, some grieve for a considerable time, some find grief overwhelming to the extent it impacts every aspect of their lives, others seem to sail through grief.

Anticipatory grief is the grief experienced before a loss occurs.

Many pet owners begin grieving during illness, decline, terminal diagnosis, or end-of-life care decisions.

This emotional experience can feel confusing and overwhelming, particularly while still caring for and loving a pet who is still physically present.

At the Association of Pet Bereavement Counsellors, we believe support matters before, during, and after loss.
