Just because it isn’t spring doesn’t mean laminitis isn’t around.
Please be extra vigilant with the frosty grass that we are experiencing at the moment.
Why frosty grass?
Grass produces fructose (sugars) during daylight hours in order to grow. However, the cold weather inhibits the growth so the sugar then accumulates in the grass. This high amount of sugar in the grass can then trigger an insulin spike which can be enough to cause laminitis.
This pony has been shod in an imprint shoe.
An imprint shoe is a thermoplastic polyurethane shoe that is noninvasive (no nails as to lessen the concussion to an already compromised hoof). This provides immediate support and cushioning to the hoof which has already made him feel more comfortable.
