A few days ago, I took Finn to meet some dogs belonging to a potential adopter. Of course, he did amazing, and of course, I cried on the way there, seeing his little face in the mirror looking at me.
Letting go of any dog you have helped is difficult, but the ones like Finn are even harder because the fear of them returning to the once unhealthy state of mind they were in is absolutely gut-wrenching.
When I took Finn on, I did so because I knew how much he desperately needed me, despite having 7 dogs already, a baby, a business, and a marriage.
The agreement was always that this was temporary.
However, I have decided that I just can't do it to his little heart.
We stood there for two hours chatting after the meet up with Finn laid either in my boot or at my feet, as calm as anything, and I could see it, how much this dog needs me and always will to prevent him from returning to the Finn we all knew.
I can not, for the sake of my marriage, adopt any more dogs. However, after lots of discussion, it has been agreed that Finn will stay as a sponsor dog. This means he will always be a Kelpie Welfare dog, but he will stay with me.
Thank you, everyone, for supporting Finn and for all the tasty treats that have been sent my way! Kelpie Welfare needs your continued support in order to make this happen, and they are still financially responsible for Finn.
It's because of people like you that dogs with extreme bite histories like Finn get the chance and support that they need.
I truly believe that Finn is the face of KW and an ambassador for all dogs like him that have ended up euthanised instead of understood.
Finally, Finn is home.
