It’s been an exceptionally busy week, but yesterday we managed to get Amanda’s x-rays done ✔️
The good news is that her pedal bone isn’t pushing through the sole, which was our vet’s main concern. She still has a long road ahead, as we still have an infection,but we’ve already seen some wonderful improvements – she’s walking much better now.

Amanda also received another 3-day pain relief injection alongside her other medication. Her blood results brought fantastic news too – her insulin levels have dropped from 108 to 52! And her weight has gone from 560kg down to a staggering 405kg. 🐴✨

It hasn’t been easy, and we’ve learnt so much along the way – what works for one doesn’t always work for another. But on the whole, things are looking good for Amanda. She’s proved yet again that she’s not ready to cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge just yet – her love for life is simply too strong. ❤️

💛 Tomorrow afternoon Amanda will be having some x-rays 🤞🏻. Over the past few weeks our unexpected vet bills have mounted into the hundreds of pounds 🤯. We’re so grateful to everyone who has sent well wishes – we won’t stop fighting for Amanda, no matter how long it takes. She truly is a beautiful soul and she deserves every chance. 💛

To help us through these tough times, we’ve put together an Amazon Wish List with the daily essentials we’re using for Amanda. If anyone would like to purchase an item, it would make such a huge difference and help ease the pressure we’re under. Like many charities, autumn brings extra strain with long-term foster dogs, ponies, and the many feral cats in our care.

Amanda Update 💔
We’re still poulticing her foot every day to try and draw the infection out, and she’s on the maximum pain relief we can give her. We’ve been speaking to our vet daily, and this morning we made a plan for X-rays to see if the pedal bone is pushing through.

If it is, then there really isn’t anything more we can do. It would be extremely unfair to keep trying to treat Amanda knowing the excruciating pain she would be in. 💔

Our only problem right now is the weather — we can’t get the X-rays done in the rain 😭. We’re just hoping for a dry spell so the vet can come and give us the answers we need.

Until then, please keep our beautiful girl in your thoughts. We really, really don’t want to have to let her go. 🌈🙏

🐈‍⬛🏡 We are sure you will all remember Maple 🐈‍⬛🏡

Our one eyed warrior is now settling in very nicely to her forever home , with a beautiful new name .... IRIS ❤️

Iris has definitely made herself at home, ruling the roost, taking possession of her spot and cuddling up to her new siblings

We would like to share a few incredibly kind words from Iris' owner 💜

"You may remember little Maple from a couple of weeks ago - a beautiful little tortie who sadly lost her eye at just a few weeks of age.
We were lucky enough to bring her home today to join our small family.

We should like to thank all the volunteers and fosters that support Ark Angels.Without you all Maple would never have stood a chance.
Because of you, your time, your love and your care she now has a loving home where she will thrive and no doubt be ruling the roost in no time!

She is proof that there is no lost cause and that we need organisations like Ark Angels to help those that can't help themselves.Make no mistake, their efforts, commitment & personal sacrifice (their time & care being the biggest but - by far, not the only) have saved and brought love to thousands - both of the four-legged and two legged variety!

In particular we would like to thank Kelly & the foster that gave Maple her first home. Without her Maple would have never known a loving home.

Just a little update on our sweet old girl, Amanda ❤️

We’ve been up and down the field what feels like a million times a day, making sure she has her pain relief. The vet still isn’t very hopeful, but we’re doing everything possible to keep her comfortable and pain-free.

Right now, we’re changing her poultice daily. If we can’t get her pain under control or see real improvement, we’ll sadly have to make the hardest decision and let her go with dignity 💔.

We don’t want to name and shame, but we do feel it’s important to explain how Amanda became so poorly after making such a wonderful comeback from laminitis.

After checking with our vet, we had our usual farrier trim her feet and fit special shoes to help relieve the pressure. We were a little concerned as it looked like her toe had been chopped and the hoof didn’t look right, but we were reassured this was “normal” for a laminitis pony.

Four weeks later, following advice, the farrier returned to fit special pads and shoes. While watching, we questioned what looked like bruising or even bleeding under the sole, but again we were told this was “normal.” Less than 24 hours later, Amanda was crippled.

At first, we thought it might be another laminitis flare-up, even though she’s on a strict diet and restricted grazing. We gave pain relief for a couple of days, but when there was no improvement, our wonderful vet came out. Sadly, we received devastating news: Amanda has a severe hoof infection caused by the soles being cut far too much, leaving her with serious complications.

The vet was able to make a small hole to allow drainage, and now we’re continuing with daily poultice changes. The biggest concerns are her pedal bone pushing through and the hoof disintegrating.

We were absolutely devastated to hear this, but about 15 hours later she is weight-bearing a little better. She’s still a very poorly old lady, but she’s fighting.

💔 We’ve had some very difficult news today. The vet has been out to see Amanda, and the next 24 hours are critical. If she doesn’t show signs of improvement, we may have to let her cross the rainbow bridge.
