This is Inas Alali. Five years ago, she grabbed her two young children and fled their family home. She left most of their belongings behind, as well as all the precious memories they made growing up there 😔 Inas had no idea where she was going, or whether her family would be safe. She just knew she had to get her children out of Syria - or there’s a chance they might all die. After a tough and uncertain few months, the family arrived in Wales in 2019. Inas was determined to provide a better life for her children and was keen to make a difference in the country they now called home. Despite not speaking much English, she started volunteering and learning about Welsh culture. She also started studying in her spare time. Now, just a few short years later, she has just completed her PGCE and is planning on becoming a teacher. She said: "Wales is an amazing place. I now say; ‘I am from Wales’ because I feel that now… I really appreciate that because we have a feeling of belonging… Welsh people don’t judge you. For example, I couldn’t speak English fluently, but people helped me in many ways. They didn’t say; ‘oh, your pronunciation is not perfect’. They have just shown us respect and that we are welcome.” 🏴❤️
