Let’s look at this list from a dog trainer who deals with unwanted behaviours in dogs puppies/dogs and see how as Breeders we combat or try to combat these by basically grilling the families who come to us, 😂😂 and constantly feeding them information to continue the good work that we start. We will never tell anyone what we feel they need to hear to secure a home. We have told people no. These wee guys are cute, but not suited to everyone.
1: We vet everyone for lifestyle. We make it very clear about the “doodle breed” their quirks, their challenges, the energy, the cleverness in the poodle and stubbornness. Lol. Masters of manipulation.
2. This one is the worst, do not humanise the dog, treat it like a dog, it will respect you more. It will thrive on those set rules, and boundaries, and consistency.
3. We give a strict guide of 3 meals per day, food down, if the don’t eat it, lift it. Offer nothing else. They will eat at their next meal. Think how we feel as humans if we graze all day. Goes back to the consistency and routines. There is rarely a fussy eater.
4. Can’t comment on bumbags… knock yourself out. But if you need to wear anything, wear a sling. lol.
5. Socialising is the BIG one. Especially with Goldendoodles. Cockapoos are very confident little guys, but MGD, need to see, hear, feel, everything. The earlier the better, and this needs to continue throughout their lives.
6. Walks integrated into your routine, sorted. A walk not only gives them exercise but stimulates their mind, using their noses! Change your walks up, different smells means more stimulation.
7. Again spoke about this un number 2, Set those rules.
8. Love your dog, totally, just not to death. Cockapoos and doodle breeds are like Velcro, if you let them. Treat them like a dog. They will still love you… if not more. And not see you as a high reward they end up guarding. 🫣
9. We say it all the time! Train, train, train…. You won’t regret it. It’s hard work… if it was easy, then dog trainers wouldn’t be bursting at the seams with work. Don’t be another date in their diary… do the work, you will not regret it. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
10. No likimats. Well, use them, just don’t rely on them to keep your pup stimulated. They can be good for calming a dog as licking can release good endorphins that help relax your dog in certain situations. Mentally stimulate your puppy/dog in other ways. Use their noses. They love it. And it will tire them out more.
We feel sometimes like nagging parents, when people get a puppy from us, but we always get good feedback, and very little problems.
Hope everyone finds this helpful. 🐾🐾🐾
