Kea had a bit of a run in with a sharp object and managed to cut open her chest 😔 luckily with a sedation, a good clean of the wound and some stitches to hold the skin in place, Kea was back to her normal, bouncy self! ☺️ she even showed us a few tricks she knew for some treats!

We recently had a visit from Teddy for his puppy health check and first vaccinations. Look at that face! 🥹

To help your puppy or kitten have the best start in life, it's good to get them fully covered with vaccinations and kept up to date with preventative measures for fleas and worms.

Meet Biscuit 🐾A brave little fighter!

Biscuit is a very special rescue puppy who’s captured everyone’s hearts at our South Ockendon practice. 💛

He was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his legs, leaving him with hind limb injuries and in need of urgent treatment and round-the-clock care. Thankfully, our lead vet and branch partner, George 🩺, stepped in to give him the best possible start and took him in for himself! He took him home and, with the help of our nursing team, hand-reared him back to health.

Biscuit is now doing brilliantly, growing stronger every day, and is a much-loved member of the South Ockendon team. 🐶✨

This Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re reminded that the unconditional love of pets can play a big part in supporting our wellbeing. Whether it’s a wagging tail after a long day, a purr that brings comfort, or simply getting out for a walk together, our companions remind us to slow down and take care of ourselves.

At Medivet, we’re proud to care not just for pets, but also for the people who love them. Supporting each other; colleagues, clients and communities is at the heart of what we do.

Let’s celebrate the bond between people and pets, and the role it plays in better mental health.

💬 How does your pet help you look after your wellbeing? Share your story in the comments.

Say hi to this prickly little guy! This brave little hedgehog was brought into our Medivet Beeston practice after being injured by a strimmer and needed an amputation.

Garden wildlife often need a helping hand and small changes, like checking long grass before strimming, can make a huge difference. 🌱✨

We would like to introduce this very brave boy, Arthur. 🐈

Arthur came into out South Ockendon practice recently for a tail amputation. There are many reasons a cat may need an amputation and in this case it was because Arthur was found as a stray and had a severe infection in his tale. The team made the decision to amputate so Arthur could live a happy and healthy life.

Flushing the Abscess 🥴This is done to excrete any further foreign bodies that could still be inside the wound and possibly cause the abscess reform. Once flushed we leave the site open or we place a drain to prevent fluid building back up in the area again causing the abscess to return ✨

Bear’s Abscess 🤢

Bear was in to see us as he had a rather large swelling under his jaw.
Once this was clipped and cleaned we discovered it to be a rather nasty abscess ! 🥴

Bear was then placed under a GA so we could investigate the abscess further, lancing and then flushing it to remove any remaining bacteria or debris.
It turns out a pesky grass seed had burrowed into his skin causing the reaction 🌾
See the separate video of us flushing his abscess !

His face is now fully healed and he is back to his handsome self 🥰

Say hello to Nandi and her babies ! 🥰

One of our lovely patients Nandi recently gave birth to a gorgeous litter of puppies, and as you can see she is extremely proud of herself (as she should be!) 🩷

Nandi has been an amazing mother and it’s a joy to see how grown up her babies now are compared to when they first came to visit ☺️

Blue’s Lumpectomy 🩵
⚠️ GRAPHIC IMAGE ⚠️

Blue came in to see us for a complementary lump check, after checking her lump it was clear that removal was necessary.

Lumps that are bleeding, ruptured, growing or generally causing irritation to your pet are typically ones that are best removed 🫶🏽

Luckily, lumpectomy’s are a routine procedure for us and, often , simple with a quick recovery time. Once the lump is removed it can then be sent to an external lab for testing to see if further treatment is needed ✨

Blue was very proud of herself after her operation, and happily soaked up all the attention from the nurses 🩵

FOUND KITTEN - ⚠️ PLEASE SHARE ⚠️

We have had this little man handed into us who was found by a member of the public around Wenrisc Drive Witney / Minster Lovell last night at roughly 10pm.
He is a male kitten ( we estimate him to be around 3 - 4 months old) , he is not chipped , very friendly and clearly loved.
If you recognise him please call the practice directly on 01993 842717 💚.

Today’s tiny visitor 🦇

This morning we had this little guy handed in having been found rather confused crawling about during the day time. 🥺

We set him up a little make shift home, and with the help of some sugary water, he was feeling much more energetic and ready for his journey to the rescue centre.

With time he will hopefully be released back home to the wild where he belongs ⛰️🏞️

Luna’s Laparoscopic Spay 🌺

A Laparoscopic Spay ( Lap Spay) is done via keyhole surgery.
This means that the surgery is considered minimally invasive and recovery time is generally quicker than in a routine spay. 🫶🏽

During Luna’s procedure , laparoscopic instruments are inserted into two key hole sized incisions, along with a camera so we can visualise her internal organs and locate the ovaries.
Unlike a routine spay, only the ovaries are removed and a cautery is used to detach them, this is believed to be less painful during recovery.

Luna is now fully healed and back to her happy self 🩷
