Cambridge Radiology Referrals

Cambridge Radiology Referrals We are a small team of very experienced professionals who specialise in providing outpatient veterinary imaging from the heart of historic Cambridge.

We are one of the UK’s most experienced providers of outpatient imaging having sub-specialised in this field since 1998. Our service is very different from many others in that each patient is seen by a radiologist who directs and is present throughout the whole procedure. They will make decisions about the type of scan, additional areas, additional procedures and whether biopsy is possible and app

ropriate. If so, all of this is done while the patient is with us. This ensures that we can get the maximum information from the procedure. A report is generated and submitted to the referring vet with some annotated images. Our Services

Here at CRR we have been busy curating an online charity art exhibition and sale. The recipient charity is a Cambridge based, children's mental health charity, Blue Smile. There is very little provision for poor mental health and we really need to support charities such as this.

The exhibition and sale is very diverse but I thought I would highlight some which might be of particular interest here.

The news about cats and COVID 19 was perhaps not very clear this morning. Please do read this, the latest statement issued by the BVA specifically in relation to this topic.
Picture below is of one of our very much loved red tabby cats - Madge Mae. Share pictures of your lovely feline friends!

BVA President Daniella Dos Santos said:

“It’s incredibly important that information and advice for the public is clear and we regret that this news story will have caused worry and upset amongst cat owners.

“We are not advising that all cats are kept indoors. Only cats from infected households or where their owners are self-isolating, and only if the cat is happy to be kept indoors. Some cats cannot stay indoors due to stress-related medical reasons.

“There have been a tiny number of cases of Covid-19 in animals and in all cases, it is likely that the transmission was human to animal. There is no evidence that pets can pass Covid-19 to their owners.

“From the small number of cases it appears that dogs do not show symptoms, but cats can show clinical signs of the disease.

“It is also the case that animals can act as fomites, as the virus could be on their fur in the same way it is on other surfaces, such as tables and doorknobs. That’s why our main advice for pet owners continues to be to practise good hand hygiene.

“And, as a precaution, for pet owners who have Covid-19 or who are self-isolating we are recommending that you keep your cat indoors if possible, during that time.

“It is very important that people don’t panic about their pets. There is no evidence that animals can pass the disease to humans.”

As you all know the face of veterinary medicine as we know it has changed massively over the last few weeks. Amanda and I waited for a while before sending out a message so we could see what these changes would mean for us all. As we now know more about what we are "allowed" to see, we felt we should clarify for you how we can still help our referring vets, our patients and their owners.
1)We are allowed to see (CT / US scan) emergency or urgent cases within the guidelines set down by the RCVS, PHE and others. These are guidelines about what constitutes an emergency or is classed as urgent in patient terms. If there is any doubt about this we recommend that you give us a call or send us an e mail so that we can discuss the case fully and then, between us, determine a plan.
2)We can still review radiographs submitted for interpretation. If digital, these should be submitted in DICOM format and via our web based PACS system. Details of how to upload are found on the website (www.cambridgeradiologyreferrals.com) under the teleradiology tab. Patient details and history can be added there or submitted by e-mail.
3) Whilst many of our referring vets are working as part of a skeleton staff, no one needs to feel alone or unsupported during an ultrasound scan. As true outpatient imaging specialists, we have always given advice for ultrasound, as much as is possible remotely, and we continue to do so now. This has always been FOC and remains so.
So, if you need us then get in touch - we are still here.
Most importantly stay connected and stay well.
Please do flood our page with positive pictures of your lovely four legged friends. I will start with our dogs - Norman and Florence are the Norfolk Terriers and Dorcas is the springer spaniel.

All best wishes from us to you!
