So proud of this young lady today!
Laura sent me this video this morning and I just had to put it on here! Laura has struggled with Spuds recall over the weeks and it just got worse and worse! The big wide world had more attraction for Spud, so was more than happy to run around ignoring Laura, especially when he had a ball, dummy or I think tree guards were his favourites!! So we changed his training slightly.! Instead of fighting against Spud we worked with him, finding what he enjoys in life! Dog training isn't about getting the dog to gawp into your eyes, then mark with a yes or a click then filling them with treats!
Thats false, that's the dog doing something just to get a treat, not doing it because it really wanted to! and although this method can work I feel real training is working with your dog, finding out what makes it tick, creating a bond, spending time with them, make training team work so you both enjoy it, not bribe them into doing something!! Now although this retrieve wasn't perfect, it was a massive win for Laura! He recalled from a open space, with a dummy!. but looked really happy doing so!!

A huge thank you to Adam and the wonderful Hugo for putting on such a fantastic gun dog demonstration for us at FeatherGrey's Awards day last week! 🐾

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed watching them work and it was brilliant to see such skill, partnership and enthusiasm on display. It was not only entertaining but hopefully inspired a few people to progress their own training journeys even further. 👏

Thank you again for taking the time to come along and share your experience with us, it was very much appreciated by everyone there.

Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in FeatherGrey's Bronze & Silver Awards training day last Saturday! 🐾🏅

Despite the weather, everyone had an absolutely fantastic day and passed with flying colours, I honestly couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you. The assessments were challenging and everyone was truly put through their paces, but the hard work, commitment and teamwork really showed throughout the day. 👏

A massive thank you to Mum (Amy) for putting on an amazing spread of food - it was incredible as always! 💕
Also a big thank you to Liz for the delicious cakes 🍰 and to Lisa (sister) for all her help and support throughout the day - it’s hugely appreciated.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended with such positivity, determination and brilliant team spirit. Days like this are what make it all worthwhile.

✨ I’m Back ✨

Following an injury and a period rest and recovery, I’m pleased to say I’m back with FeatherGrey 🐾

Thank you so much for your patience, support, and kind messages over the past few months, it’s meant a great deal.

I’ll be easing back into things gradually, with my focus initially on my clients and dogs, before returning more fully to regular posts and updates.

As I get back up to full speed, I’ll be sharing tips, guidance, and support to help you and your dogs along the way.

Sunday Training Snippets with Martha 💚

Do you remember Martha — one half of the mischievous pup duo I introduced back on the 19th of October? She was just 4½ months old then, and she’s grown so much already! 🤍

Today was all about teaching little Martha to be calm, steady and patient.

Despite being very distracted by the clothes flapping on the washing line, she kept her focus brilliantly, such a good girl! 🐾

She’s already mastered waiting while I stand still in front of her, so now we’re gently building her confidence by adding movement. I’ve started to move around her while she holds her sit and stay, stretching her skills just enough, without overwhelming her.

Over the next few weeks, this will progress to walking a full circle around her, and eventually to throwing balls or dummies over her head while she continues to sit calmly and wait.

All part of her lovely foundational training… and she’s doing so well already. 🤍

Exciting news from FeatherGrey! 💚
We’re thrilled to announce FeatherGrey's first Kennel Club Accredited Obedience & Responsible Ownership Course – Bronze Level!

🐾 Date: Saturday 28th November
⏰ Time: Starting at 10am (lasting around 2–3 hours)
📍 Location: Lee Moor

Ten wonderful clients and their dogs will be taking part, working hard towards their first big goal and aiming to earn their certificates and rosettes! 🏅

You’re warmly invited to come along and watch, it’s a great chance to see what FeatherGrey training is all about and support all the lovely owners and their dogs as they take this exciting next step. 👏

Back from the Lakes and absolutely shattered!
It’s been a busy (and very wet!) week of adventures with long walks, retrieves, and plenty of learning for the youngsters.

💦 First up, Grey couldn’t resist a long water retrieve (of course!)
🐾 Then a clip from the tail end of a very long walk…
🌊 At just 20 weeks, young Harry’s confidence in the water is already amazing!
🎄 Then some calm training for the pups in a very Christmassy Keswick hotel - so proud of how they handled it.
🍺 And finally, Martha sneaking a cheeky slurp of my pint to round off the week!

A wonderful few days away with the dogs, but it’s back to training now.
Taking a quiet moment today too, in remembrance of all who served and the brave animals who stood beside them 💚

🌿 A Well-Deserved Break! 🌿

No client sessions this week as we've taken ourselves across to the Lakes for a well-earned bit of downtime. ☔🐾
It’s been a lovely change of scenery, even if the weather’s doing its best to test the waterproofs!

I’ll share a few photos and a little video from the trip on Sunday, but for now it’s all about recharging before we’re back to training next week 💚

A busy but brilliant day out this week with some of my team 🐾

Four of the dogs were out working beautifully - steady, focused and reminding me exactly why I love what I do. We ended the day tired but happy (and with plenty of retrieves under our belts!)

No video this week, it’s been all hands (and paws!) on deck out working but I couldn’t be prouder of the FeatherGrey team 💚
