It was a busy day on Monday! 🐾

We started the morning with Floss and Tinker scent detecting with Kong Search.

Floss is an amazing scent dog and worked beautifully through all her searches. Tinker is the sweetest older lady and absolutely loves her scent work — proving once again that the oldies have definitely still got it!

Then on Monday evening we had a super trailing session.

Working across an urban/rural setting, the dogs had plenty to contend with. These were highly contaminated areas with cars, people, dogs and wildlife all adding distraction and complexity. The weather was balmy with just a little light wind at times.

Everyone excelled and achieved!

Bramble had two fab trails, gaining his United Canine Scent Sport Mini League Rural Level 1. He trailed beautifully with his usual enthusiasm and made his handler very proud.

Eevee worked incredibly hard, smashing her 30-minute aged trail with skill and determination to earn a very well-deserved Urban 11 — then went on to smash Urban 12 too! 🎉

Trixie had her very first trailing session and took to it like a duck to water. We started her with some tracking into a hunting trail, followed by a short intensity trail. She’s an amazing little dog and picked up the game in no time. We can’t wait to see how she progresses!

Albi was on form, working with confidence and acing his trails to gain Urban 12 and 13. Brilliant work from him.

Everyone was fantastic and the teamwork between dogs and handlers was an absolute joy to watch.

Well done everyone! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🐾

Worth sharing.

An interesting and thought-provoking article that highlights the importance of seeking credible, evidence-based advice when it comes to our dogs’ behaviour and training. It’s well worth taking a few minutes to read

Trixie had an absolutely outstanding session this evening! Scarborough Scent Dogs

She smashed her expert-level linear kit practice with confidence and precision.

Her free searches were fantastic. We used whole Kongs in a variety of sizes, tiny pieces of Kong hidden in the mini tins, and she confidently located the Kong hidden inside a box. Her commitment to the search was a joy to watch.

Her car search was particularly special. A scenario that was once a little worrying for her is now met with enthusiasm and confidence. Seeing that progress is incredibly rewarding.

We set some very challenging searches throughout the session, but Trixie took every one in her stride with focus, determination and great problem-solving.

We also completed Week 2 of the Catnip Retrieve programme, continuing to build a reliable retrieve and release.

What a fabulous team 🙌🐾😃

SERIOUSLY… I’m so sick of hearing this.
“Just ignore the puppy biting.”
“He’s trying to dominate you.”
“He needs to know who’s boss.”
“He’s manipulating you.”
“Just tire him out.”
“He’s doing it for attention.”

Honestly, I’m getting tired of people who’ve raised one puppy 20 years ago, or had a dog that somehow turned out alright, suddenly becoming canine behaviour experts.

I’ve had hair for years.
It doesn’t make me a hairdresser.

I’ve got teeth.
It doesn’t make me a dentist.

Owning a dog doesn’t automatically make someone an expert in behaviour.

The reality?
Puppies bite.
Puppies have tantrums.
Puppies get overtired.
Puppies get frustrated.
Puppies get overstimulated.

They’re babies trying to navigate a world they don’t yet understand.
The answer isn’t a one sentence fix from TikTok, Facebook, or your neighbour who “knows dogs.”

It’s understanding why the behaviour is happening.

Because once you understand the emotion behind the behaviour, you stop trying to suppress it and start teaching the puppy how to cope.

Rant over… until the next person tells me Peanut is trying to manipulate or dominate me. 🤦🏼‍♀️🐾
