🐾Do you remember Dinxy, the adorable Jack Russell who recently came in for her dental?🐾
Well, Dinxy certainly likes to keep her owners on their toes! The other evening, her owners arrived home to discover that Dinxy had helped herself to an astonishing 27 chocolate brownies!🍫
They gave us a call straight away and we advised them to bring her down immediately. After examination and blood testing, it became clear that Dinxy had developed acute pancreatitis, a painful and potentially serious condition often caused by eating rich, fatty foods. Dinxy was admitted for overnight hospitalisation, where she received intravenous fluids, medication and lots of TLC from our team❤️
We are delighted to say that Dinxy was an absolute superstar throughout her stay and is now back home with her family recovering well🌟🐶
Chocolate can be extremely dangerous for dogs due to a substance called theobromine, which they cannot process effectively. Even small amounts can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness, tremors, seizures and, in severe cases, can be life-threatening. Foods high in fat, such as brownies, cakes and other treats, can also trigger pancreatitis.
If your pet ever eats something they shouldn't, don't wait for symptoms to appear - contact a veterinary professional straight away!
One of the many benefits of being registered with Griffiths Veterinary Centre is that we provide our own 24/7, 365-day emergency service. There are no call centres, no travelling to an unfamiliar hospital and no explaining your pet's history to someone you've never met. Your pet is cared for right here in our practice by the same friendly team who know them best.🏥🐾
Well done, Dinxy – but let's stick to dog treats from now on! 😂❤️
