Joey is a rare find. He is fairly green but his flatwork is coming along well - he is responsive to the leg, forward thinking but with good brakes (sit and 'woah') - he has already learnt to leg yield, turn on the forehand and rein back. He has a fantastic attitude and has also been ridden a few times by a quiet 13yo - the first time was only three weeks after he was broken. He has also been ridden in rain and serious winds with no problems.
He is comfortably popping around a small course of show jumps including fillers and water tray and he has also jumped our cross country fences. He takes you to the fence without being strong and will jump off any stride - if he's not sure about a filler he can give it some extra room so would not be a novice ride. He has a great loose jump and comfortably pops 1.20m.
He is hacking out quietly alone and in company and has thus far been unfazed - he has crossed bridges, been through water and met other horses out without issue. He doesn't hot up going for a canter and always has good brakes. He hasn't seen a huge amount of traffic whilst out alone as I take him along quiet lanes, but while in company he has been absolutely fine with cars and vans etc. If there is anything he is really unsure of he will have a look and a snort, but he has the wonderful attitude of 'if Mum says it's okay, then it must be okay'. At home he is well accustomed to dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, goats, bonfires, tractors (sometimes working throughout the night), flapping tarp, horses running around in the adjacent fields whilst he is being ridden and the American jet planes that regularly fly overhead!
He is good to catch and has lovely ground manners. I can load him up on my own, he travels well and will stand quietly with a hay net. He's good to bath, good with farrier (has always been barefoot) and is a dream to pull and plait up! He doesn't complain if he has to wait in while others are ridden in the morning and is always pleased to see you. He is fine turned out with other horses - however he is definitely bottom of the pack so wouldn't do well with a bully.
Joey will make someone a truly fantastic allrounder / riding club horse. He is obviously very green for his age and so will suit a competent teenager / small adult who can continue his education - it will not be long until he is ready to start his competitive career or alternatively he would suit someone that just wants to get on and know they will have fun every time.
Joey is a really sweet little horse who has become one of the family - he is a firm favourite on the yard. 5* forever homes only please.
