🏠 LOOKING FOR FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOME 🏠
🌟 RBU, post-adoption support and 4 weeks free PetPlan insurance provided upon adoption
From the very first weeks of the war in Ukraine, a brave retired British volunteer stepped up. He was collecting vital humanitarian aid from his local community and driving it himself into war country, helping those who had lost homes, families, and animals. In one of the shelters, he met a young dog rescued from a war-torn region – a sweet young girl with a deformed front leg, possibly from birth or an early injury.
But man saw something in her. Despite her quiet disability and her slim chances of adoption in Ukraine, he promised her a future. After months of paperwork and preparation, MIRA was finally brought to the UK in April this year on one of his missions. But sadly, due to a sudden and serious decline in his health, Mira can no longer stay with the family who brought her to safety. Now, this beautiful young soul needs a quiet and understanding home to truly begin her next chapter.

Reason to rehome as family says:
“with my cardiac issues which are going to be long term and we are no longer able to meet Mira's exercise needs adequately. The frequent visits from emergency services have greatly unsettled Mira and this is going to keep happening, even taking her to a neighbours for the duration of the ambulance visit has distressed her greatly. In addition we've also come to realise that where we live, although it's a cul-de-sac is far too busy and noisy for Mira - there are a lot of deliveries and passing people, children playing out, there have also been a lot of neighbourhood fireworks since Mira has moved in. The busier and noisier the day is on the street the worse Mira is in the evenings.
Please note we are not rehoming Mira because of any sort of behaviour. It is very reluctantly that we have come to this conclusion but feel that Mira will have a less stressful life and more opportunity to show her loving, playful qualities in a different more rural, quieter setting. “
🐾 Mira’s Details 🐾
Mira is now 1,5 years old and resembles a miniature German Shepherd. She’s a bright, loving, and sensitive girl who has come a long way from her early days of fear and displacement.
She has a deformed front paw, likely from birth, though some UK vets believe it may be the result of an early injury. Mira uses the leg delicately and weight-bears at times, though she may yelp if she lands awkwardly.
Due to her attachment to Stephen and the home, Mira has developed some challenges and sometimes guard him from other family. Mira is not aggressive, but she has shown discomfort in certain situations. She has lightly nipped a few times, like 4-5 times since she is with owner, (never breaking skin) when being touched near her lower back or during harnessing and unharnessing. With patience and gentle handling, this is manageable and improving over time and now she is OK to do it with her trusted owner.
This is what her family says:
“She's fine with meeting most people when out on her long walk (see below for when at home) and most dogs. Most days she walks with 2 other dogs who live on the same street. She doesn't like a lot of dogs crowding round her though. She now doesn't pull on the lead and will now also walk nicely alongside Kate using a walker or other mobility aid.
Mira also likes to play games in the house. She has a range of toys, which would come with her, and particularly likes soft toys. She varies as to which ‘fetch’ toy she likes best between a ring, ball, throw stick. She also likes to chew on cloth - we have donated an old t-shirt and fleece throw to save the furniture and it worked perfectly.
She is now ok to cross the main road to get to the wood/playing fields where she goes for her long walks and is generally ok with the near constant hum of the main road which can be heard from our house. However she still hates all lorries/delivery vans (other than the bin lorry). She also doesn't like people passing up and down the road past our house.
Other training - commands Mira knows and responds to consistently are ‘sit’ and ‘paw’. Commands that she will respond to sometimes and is getting better at are ‘come/here’ , ‘down’ and ‘wait/stay’. A command that depends on what she has in her mouth and who it is giving the command is ‘drop/give’. Toys eg when playing fetch are more likely to be dropped than eg the mail or rubbish(tissues) she has found in the road. Distracting Mira away with higher value treats is still the only way to get this off her. Mira is crate trained, it is next to our bed, and will take herself there mainly at night when she no longer wants to be on the bed and sometimes during the day if we give her a chew.
Resource guarding - Her chews she still actively guards but if you move them when she’s not in the room she doesn’t bother about it now. Her toys she also no longer guards unless she has put them under the coffee table. One of her quirks is sharing our bed with the cats - if the cats are there first she’s fine, if she’s there first she barks and chases them off! Mira is very good, and always has been, at shared eating when we are having our meals. “
🏡 What Mira Needs 🏡
This is what her family says:
“We believe Mira's new home needs to be somewhere quiet in a semi-rural or rural location where there isn't a lot of traffic or people passing by all the time. In house quiet isn't so important, she has eg become used to musical instruments being practiced! And she generally likes visitors in the house. Mira would benefit from a house with a grassed garden, where she can sit/lie out relaxing and just sniff the air, which she loves. A home with either another dog or cats will be fine. Mira has responded well to and benefitted from going on regular walks with two other dogs. She is very used to living with cats both here and in Ukraine.
We do not think Mira can be rehomed with children or where children visit regularly. We have not let her near children because of her unpredictability and she barks very loudly at them and her body stiffens when they are playing out in the road near our house. Older teenagers are fine as long as there’s someone in most of the time she’ll be happy.
Although Mira likes meeting new people she does not like to be 'over fussed' particularly around her bottom back.
Mira doesn’t like to be left alone. We were just starting to address this when I became unwell and she has not been settled enough to restart this again yet. She will sometimes wander around the house and garden on her own but 'pines'/yelps when either of us leaves the house. This has lessened to about 20 minutes. In the beginning it was for most of the time that person was out of the house. Mira is happy to be separated from us when she goes with her regular dogwalkers but takes a bit more encouragement, or refuses, to go eg with a friend of ours even though she loves her walks in the woods/playing fields. “
❤️ A Difficult Goodbye, A Hopeful New Beginning ❤️
Family have made this heartbreaking decision out of love. With Stephen’s serious cardiac health issues and an environment that’s become too noisy and chaotic for Mira, they’ve chosen to let her go – so she can thrive in a setting that meets her emotional and physical needs.
They’ve poured love, time, and effort into helping her heal. She has made a huge progress. But now, Mira needs someone new to carry her forward — to give her the peace, stucture, and predictability she needs.
🩺 Health Information 🩺
Mira is spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated.
She has a deformed front leg and has no other known medical issues.
💔 If you believe in second chances, and you understand the quiet power of patience and love, Mira is waiting for you. She’s more than her quirks — she’s a war survivor, a soul who longs to feel safe again.
