I really hope this doesn’t come across as self-indulgent or ‘look at me’ — that genuinely isn’t the intention here.
I just wanted to share a little glimpse of my journey over the last four years, because when I look back, I realise how much has changed — not only in me as a groomer, but in me as a person.
Sometimes the trajectory of your life changes without you even realising it. And sometimes you have to go through some really uncomfortable shifts before you can look back and see that they were actually taking you somewhere better.
Four years ago, I had a job in a school that I genuinely loved, while also trying to be there for my ageing mum. Eventually, I realised I simply couldn’t keep doing both.
Dog grooming gave me something I didn’t even realise I needed — time. Time with my mum that I will never, ever regret choosing. And now that she isn’t here, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put a value on what those extra years, days and ordinary little moments with her meant to me. 🤍
What started as a change I needed to make somehow became something I absolutely love. It’s brought me new friendships, experiences I never expected, a passion for learning and improving, and even my little Dave. 🐩
So this isn’t really an achievement post. It’s more of a little shout-out to every middle-aged woman who might be feeling stuck, juggling work, family, ageing parents and everybody else’s needs, wondering whether it’s too late to change direction.
It isn’t.
You don’t have to have the whole thing figured out. Sometimes you just have to be brave enough to make the first uncomfortable change and see where it takes you.
Life is ridiculously short. Money comes and goes. Time doesn’t.
Follow the thing that lights you up. Keep learning. Change direction if you need to.
And wherever possible, live your life and be free. 🤍
