I’ve never had an issue with Laminitis with my own pure bred Gypsy Cobs. They look huge but they are meant to they have been specifically bred and chosen from the heaviest biggest b***d old fashioned lines. They live out all year round, winter out all winter and all weather including rain and snow with no rugs and don’t have any hard feed or concentrates as the grass and Haylege is so good. The stallions run with the mares so get plenty of exercise, the mares are growing and then feeding foals, youngsters are expending energy growing, and anything not doing any of the above is worked so my own gypsy cobs never get laminitis and never have. The only One exception I had in 40 years of having horses was a little native type pony I once had near a main road that the public stuffed full of carrots and apples multiple times a day when told not to.

Shantaine Charlie - So… most foals are born in the spring or early summer but very occasionally a foal is born unusually late in the year like Charlie who was born late October. That meant he was conceived late November the year before. The stallion was running with his mares and was a very hot summer and mild Autumn which is why he was conceived later on than normal as the mare came into season at a time when usually she wouldn’t have due to the mild weather. I would rather have a late foal than no foal as I know how to make sure there are no problems. As you can see despite being born in October Shantaine Charlie was a tank! Making sure the mare was well fed was all that was needed for him he himself adapted to the climate and grew an extra thick coat and size wise was no different to the earlier foals. Not ideal to be born that late, and very rare but not an issue for the cob expert 🙂
He was out of Castledream Summer Breeze a Shantaine An Sparticus (graded stallion) Daughter by Shantaine Idriss.

Latest update on Hope the rescue mare. (Now registered as “A Hundred Hopes”)

Still blown away by the transformation of this mare. Yes this is the same horse. I knew she would be quality and just needed some TLC. Day 1 and today. The best mare I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. Amazing what a wormer and some good grass and patience can do. The icing on the cake is finding out via DNA she is closely related to Hugo Boss. 👌🏻
She arrived in foal and is due soon 🦄❤️
She will always stay with us forever safe ❤️

Not long now until this tank of a mare foals!❤️🦄👌🏻

Jimmy Mccann’s Black Legged Stallion our retired elderly old lad has not moved from that spot for the last 24 hours. When there is a fresh bale in the field he genuinely believes it’s just for him 😂😂❤️

We are having to start early with the Haylege due to the drought… much to their delight. They do love their Haylege. Built for feed not speed 😂

I still can’t believe this is the same cob. What a transformation. The rescues are so fulfilling ❤️

Shantaine Annabel barely a week old and already built like a heavy tank how I like them, lots of bone, nice short back with feather coming through already and a beautiful head. She will be a top class very heavy Gypsy Cob. I am delighted with her 🦄❤️👌🏻

After a Second place on his first outing and a First place on his Second outing, The Chaps UK Championships his 3rd outing was always going to be Winning Post’s Mr Unbelievable’s big test re his future after the discovery last month of a stage 4 heart murmur which was and is being monitored. I had no expectations, he just went for the experience. He did very well in his in hand youngstock class yesterday up against much larger more mature looking horses, but as he is growing and getting bigger it is now apparent that his problem is affecting his stamina and growth. After today he will be retired from the show ring for good, (one of my own home bred cobs will take his place not a bought cob) and he will come home be turned away and gelded retired and never worked or ridden ever. He is beautifully bred, superb pedigree, lovely markings, nice feather, lovely temperament but some things are just not meant to be. He will be a beautiful field ornament and can keep my old retired black leg stallion company as a field buddy. He has been produced beautifully by his producer who has gotten him as far as he can go. I am retiring him on welfare reasons. If a show horse is too fatigued to show due to a heart murmur it’s time to call it a day. It’s not his fault and there will be other horses for other show days. He will have a lovely life at home with his buddies and I can keep him safe for the duration of his life how ever long he lives. 3 exciting new cobs will be making their show debut later this year (2 of which are homebred not bought in) more about those later..

This sweet little c**t has given his all and I know when to call it a day. This is him this morning. He’s ok he’s asleep. He’s too tired to compete so is being withdrawn from the event and retired from showing with immediate effect. The horse always has to come first and always will. He will come home and be my pet and a buddy to the rest of the herd as a gelding. You did your best Lucas and I love you x

Shantaine Sophie was one of the few foals by the beautiful chestnut and white stallion Red Lion. She was a youngstock Champion and passed her grading when she matured. Shantaine Silas was another notable Champion by him (red and white and his double) just before Red Lion’s untimely death. Shantaine Scarlet a part bred sport pony also by Red Lion (red and white too and a Welsh PB) became a superb BSJA Showjumper and Eventer. 🐴🏆
