Another non stop week here at W&W, dog grooming at Posh Pooches in Yeovil on Monday, lots of new client meetings, regular walks with Jagger, two new clients (Tilly and Mouse), and of course agility! Walking Mouse who is on holiday in Bruton for a week has been extra special as she’s only 15 weeks old and never been allowed off the lead before, so I took them to a local secure dog field , where she got to have some zoomies for the first time in her life. Whether dogs are with me for a few days or long-term I like to make every experience I have with them count

Another very busy week - looking after Bettie until Tuesday, then house sitting for Dex and his baby brother Rocket in the middle of the week, then house sitting over the weekend for and her gang of 4 working collies, 6 ducks, 2 ponies and a field of sheep. Also squeezed in plenty of walks and 3 agility competitions, including running Dex in a steeplechase whilst I was looking after him, which was entertaining 🤣

What a busy week of dogs! I’m looking after Bettie for 9 nights, and also been doing lots of walks, meeting new clients, and agility. Finishing the week off with a weekend away at Brean, Bettie and Nala are loving the beach and the dunes 🐕

Took advantage of a cooler day to take Jagger for a walk at Penselwood. We went exploring and found a lovely new route. Really proud of this little dog, I started walking him in November, he was 10 months old and a little full on to say the least 🤣, and he’d never been off the lead. It’s been a journey but he’s a such a pleasure to walk now, and him and Nala are firm friends

In view of the current hot weather, this is the veterinary advice. Heatstroke is better prevented than treated as the mortality rate is high. Take care everyone.

➡️ Dogs DO NOT DIE from missing a walk. They might if you risk taking them out in hot temperatures.

➡️ 26.56% of the dogs with heatstroke died

➡️ Nearly half (48.7%) of the dogs with heatstroke were dog breeds with flat faces. Flat-faced dog breeds were four times more likely to develop heatstroke than normal-faced dogs.

☀️ Protect your animals from the heat ☀️

🌞Dogs can get heat stroke on hot walks

🌞Animals get heatstroke in hot hutches they cannot escape

🌞Animals can get heatstroke if left in rooms with no ventilation

🌞Animals can get heatstroke if they have no access to cool water

We are hopefully aware now of the national UK campaign 'Dogs Die in Hot Cars' - this advice remains!

However, work by VetCompass has shown that 10 times as many dogs present for veterinary care related to heat-related illness (HRI) following exercise as dogs that present following being entrapped in a vehicle.

The most commonly cited reasons for triggering heat-related illnesses were exercise (51.46% of cases), hot environment (31.02% of cases) and hot vehicles (12.41%).

➡️Remember there could be a number of risk factors including:

✅Brachycephalic breeds
✅Age - juvenile or geriatric
✅Thick Coated Dogs
✅General Health
✅ Other illnesses

❌Do not leave animals in hot cars
❌Don't take your dog to the pub all day in the heat
❌Do not walk your dogs in the heat - remember even when the sun is down they may still get too hot while exercising if the temperature is still hot
❌ Ensure they aren't locked in rooms with no ventilation
❌Do not lock rabbits and guinea pigs in hutches with no escape from the heat

✅ Provide plentiful cool, fresh water
✅ Provide shade, ventilation and cool breeze ( consider using a fan)
✅Give them cool mats to lie on
✅ Engage in enrichment to boredom bust
✅ Provide rabbits and small furries with cool frozen bottles, shade, ventilation, escape from the heat and plentiful water

A quiet week on the work front as Nala was spayed so I have been being her nurse. Thankfully on the mend and getting back to her old self now. Also if anyone is thinking about starting agility, this is where I train and they have a beginners group starting soon. It’s great fun and a fantastic way to build a connection with your dog 🐶. Suitable for handlers of any age and dogs age 6 months plus.

Hi, just a little post to introduce myself.

I’m Jennie and I live in Bruton. I grew up on a farm so animals have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve always kept my own dogs, cats and horses.

I lost my last dog Sid in 2018, which hit me HARD, and it was 5 years before I got my current little dog, Nala. My philosophy behind Woof & Wander is simple - dogs are with us for such a short time, so I like to fill their days with as much fun and love as possible, which applies to Nala and extended to all of the dogs in my care. As well as tagging along on many of the walks and sits I do, Nala and I regularly train and compete in dog agility. In short, my live revolves around dogs!

I am fully insured, I have an enhanced DBS check and I am a qualified canine first aider, so you can relax knowing that your dog is in safe hands. I’ve also worked professionally with both dogs and horses since 2022.

I can offer:

• House sitting and pet care
• Dog walking (ad hoc or regular)
• Cat feeding (or other small animals)
• Day sits or half-day sits (including walks)
• Puppy visits
• Pet taxi service
• Dog chaperone for weddings/events
• Farm/smallholding animal care
• Horse care and stable duties

Don’t hesitate to drop me a message on here if you’d like a chat about your requirements, or you can call/WhatsApp me on 07828 241427.

I look forward to hearing from you 😊
