Fireworks might feel a long way off, but your dog's preparation starts now 🎆

Small steps today can mean a calmer, happier dog later in the year ❤️

Freddie ❤️

The first dog me and my husband got together, and what a dog he was.

He originally came from Spain and ended up at a rescue over here after being starved nearly to death. When we brought him home those first few months were HARD. Chaos, stress, tears and many moments of wondering what on earth we’d taken on 🤣

But underneath all of that he was just a dog trying to figure out how to feel safe and loved.

And once he did, he turned into the most amazing boy. So funny, sweet, affectionate and unbelievably goofy. He had us laughing every single day and became such a huge part of our lives.

Due to his health problems, we only got just over 4 years with him which will never feel like enough, but I’d do it all again for him in a heartbeat.

He taught me so much about dogs and I’ll forever be grateful that we found each other ❤️

Ruby ❤️ the dog that started it all.

People assume I have always had dogs, but that actually isn't the case. I’d always absolutely loved them growing up, but with my parents working full time and then me doing the same as an adult, I thought I might never have a dog of my own.

Then I met my husband… and with him came Ruby 🥰

She was the first dog I truly got to love every single day. The first one I learnt from, worried about, laughed at, cuddled on the sofa with and completely obsessed over 🤣 She’s the reason my fascination with dogs grew into so much more, and probably the reason I ended up on the path I’m on now.

Funny how one dog can completely change your life 🐾

Spent yesterday evening doing some Mantrailing with 🐾 it's become one of my favourite activities to do with Stevie 🥰

Not only is it amazing mental enrichment, but it gives dogs a great chance to use their natural instincts, build confidence, problem solve and just generally enjoy themselves. Stevie's confidence has grown so much since we started trailing and I love watching her work things out.

It’s suitable for so many different dogs too - nervous dogs, reactive dogs, older dogs. They all get to work at their own pace with no pressure.

Thank you Amy for such a supportive and fun session as always. We absolutely love coming along 😁

One of the biggest mistakes people make with recall is trying to “prove” it too early.

Calling your dog away from distractions before the cue has real value usually just teaches them they can ignore it.
Instead, start EASY. Your dog can literally be standing next to you.

The goal at first isn’t distance, it’s conditioning. You want the recall word to become exciting and automatic before you ever rely on it in difficult situations.

This is why good recall can look almost instant. The dog isn’t stopping to debate whether to come back, the cue itself already triggers the response 🧠🐾

People often think recall training is just repeatedly trying to get your dog to come back to you and rewarding them when they do, but the best recall actually starts long before that 🧠🐾

The goal isn’t just “my dog comes when called", the goal is for the cue itself to create an automatic response where your dog hears the word and instantly wants to spin round and come back.

A huge part of good recall training focuses on classical conditioning and building massive value into the cue before even thinking about asking them to come back to you.

Full post coming soon explaining exactly how to use classical conditioning for recall training, because it’s MUCH simpler (and far more science-based) than most people realise 👀👌🏻

This video might look uneventful at first… until you notice all the rabbits running across the path right in front of us 🐇👀

For a dog, that’s a huge distraction.

Watching her stay calm, engaged and thoughtful instead of instantly reacting is exactly why I put so much focus on neutrality and emotional regulation in training ❤️

Puppy blues are real, I've been there 🤣

You can spend months dreaming about bringing your cute little puppy home and then suddenly it’s overwhelming, exhausting and honestly a bit of a shock to the system.

Feeling stressed, emotional or even wondering if you’ll ever properly bond with your puppy doesn’t make you a bad owner, it makes you human.

Those early days are hard. The lack of sleep, the constant supervision, the “what have I done?!” moments, they’re all part of it. But it does get better!

With time, patience, and consistent training, things start to click. The chaos settles, the bond grows, and one day you realise you couldn’t imagine life without them ❤️

If you’re in the thick of it right now — keep going. You’re doing better than you think.

Being a responsible dog owner isn’t just about how well your dog behaves. It’s also about being aware of the dogs and people around you.

Sometimes responsible ownership looks like: stepping off the path to give another dog room, waiting a few seconds while someone passes, not letting your dog run up to a dog on a lead, respecting the signs when a dog clearly needs space.

A little awareness and consideration from each of us can make walks safer and less stressful for everyone, dogs and owners alike. 🐾
