🐾 Bonnie & Callie Update 🐾

My client has already put so much work into these lovely girls, but after a few negative situations her confidence had understandably taken a knock.

During this week’s session, we introduced several different dogs in a controlled environment. By the end of the session, we had not only calmer dogs, but a much calmer and more confident handler too.

This is something that is often overlooked in dog training.

Dog training isn’t just about teaching our dogs new behaviours. It’s equally important to teach owners how to read, handle and support their dogs effectively. Our dogs take so much information from us, and when we feel more confident and relaxed, they often do too.

Training is a team effort, and sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from building the handler’s confidence just as much as the dog’s.

I’m looking forward to seeing Bonnie, Callie and their owner continue to grow together. ❤️

Let’s talk about the importance of play & genetic fulfilment…..

Every dog is an individual, but understanding what your dog’s genetics have programmed them to do can make a huge difference to their behaviour, wellbeing and training success.

This beautiful Dobermann x Catahoula Leopard Dog is a fantastic example.

Both breeds were developed to work. Dobermanns were bred to be intelligent, loyal, protective companions with a strong desire to work alongside their handler. Catahoulas were bred for herding, tracking, and managing livestock, requiring independence, problem-solving skills, and incredible stamina.

With genetics like these, it’s no surprise that simply going for a walk isn’t always enough.

Providing fulfilment through play isn’t about tiring a dog out, it is about satisfying the instincts they were bred for. When these needs are met, we often see improvements in focus, engagement, confidence, and overall behaviour.

Training works best when we work with our dogs’ genetics rather than against them.

Here we are teaching this beautiful girl how to engage in play with her handler, building value in the relationship whilst providing an outlet for her natural drives in a productive and rewarding way.

I have been a little quiet on here recently but we are still here working with our training, walking & boarding clients.

We have had a couple of sessions with these beautiful girls over the last few weeks.

Both very different requiring individual training plans.

During our initial session, we focused on behaviours within the home, creating calmer habits, providing more structure, and building clear communication. These foundations are essential for success outdoors.

Just one week later we achieved these lovely loose leads and much calmer girls.

Little Mollie update.

Her owners have been following a tailored puppy plan and this was the results of her first ever loose lead session.

All the foundational work and engagement built up over the last month is what makes the difference. Building a strong connection first, then loose lead training is much easier.

Let’s talk about training.

There is nothing I love more than seeing my clients and their dogs progress. However expectations can sometimes be high, and results are often expected quickly.

The reality is, training takes time. It takes repetitions, consistency, and clear communication.

Even as a dog trainer, I train my own dogs daily. Whether that is building new skills or reinforcing the basics. They enjoy off lead freedom and play.

My dogs didn’t walk nicely on a loose lead until around 8 months old. They didn’t have full off lead freedom until roughly 8–12 months.

So please don’t feel disheartened if you don’t reach your end goal in one session. There is a lot that goes into building that final picture.

Keep going. Stay consistent. Keep your expectations realistic. And most importantly have fun with your dogs.

Little Billy update 💙

Billy had to have a break from his puppy sessions due to some allergies & medical reasons.

Billy has a junior handler and despite some bumps along the way this girl has still put in her homework.

Such a clever pup & girl 🙌🏼
