Back to school vibes? 👩‍🏫✏️📚… A number of the dogs I walk are teacher’s pets (pardon the pun!) Very proud to support this sector and to welcome back to paw school my regular super speedy students! 🏫 🐾 … Here’s my youngest dog being taught by her French friend that swimming is for fools 🤣 + reflecting on her busy summer of doggy pal bookings 🐕 + human children to wind her up (!):

Cliffs: beautiful for walks, but beware the dangers for your trusted canine pal! 🐶 We lost sight of a good-to-heel family golden retriever following a ball off the edge some years ago; miraculously she escaped with a few bumps & scrapes, but others may not be so lucky!! 😔

Absolutely love this. Tip top advice, especially for little people in the family ❤️

Just let them be.
I know they look adorable when they're snoozing....but look and don't touch.
Sleep is just as essential for dogs as it is for ourselves.
Chronic sleep disruption can actually contribute to irritability, anxiety, and unwanted behaviour.
They need that good quality sleep to regulate hormones, repair their body and it can even help with training too.
Those little bodies have a lot of work to do when they are at rest....and yet....we just want to grab their lil chubby chops and tell them how much we love them.

Just because they are dogs doesn't mean we have the right to interrupt their well earned sleep.
They need to be left in peace.
That may mean encouraging them to rest elsewhere (other than the busy lounge) when they start to show they are tired.

Quality sleep helps everything.
As humans we know it helps us.

Why do we think our dogs are different?

..3 years on, in training to become a Canine Behaviourist (with the help of my other wonderful workplace!) For the love of animals 🥰 🐾

After completing a DEFRA recognised Ofqual L3 dog course in September with a word count longer than my uni dissertation (11,000 words… not what I was expecting 😱!!), it’s been good to do a much more relaxed (& very interesting) CPD course in Canine Psychology. Pleased to finish that too nonetheless! 🐾🐕‍🦺

Too cool 😎 for skool 🐶… we haven’t posted much recently but have been enjoying lots of shade, dips and staying out of the midday sun or relaxing in the garden shade, with plenty of water 💦 🌳 … & if it’s too hot, as our owners know it’s ‘hot weather protocol’ ☀️ - & we chill! 🧊 🐾 muttleypoppins.co.uk

Stay cool, paw pals! 💧 ☀️ 🥵

With the UK in the midst of another heatwave, it's important to know the signs of heatstroke in our pets and how to act fast.

🚗 Never leave pets in a car or hot room - make sure they have access to cool, shaded and well-ventilated areas both indoors and outdoors
💧 Always provide cool, fresh drinking water
🌳 Walk during cooler parts of the day (early morning or late evening)
🐾 If your pet shows signs of heatstroke: GET YOUR PET WET, THEN CALL A VET.

Some pets are at higher risk – especially flat-faced breeds, older animals, and those with health conditions.

Interesting article supported by Clinical Animal Behaviourist Rachel Rodgers, on breeds prone to separation anxiety. It is however, worth highlighting that any breed can experience this; particularly if the bond is strong or they have had reason to see you as their security blanket.. & that some individual dogs within the breeds mentioned will be perfectly content at home being left (it’s just that the statistical prevalence is higher in these breeds; which can help understand why some behave in this way and how to overcome) 🐾 🐶

Please watch out for grass seeds and avoid long grass that is dropping seed - particularly for those with the floppy ears!! 🐶 What looks so harmless can cost a lot in worry, time and money to sort x

Grass seed warning ⚠️🌱

Do you know the dangers that grass seeds can cause? Their tiny arrowheads attach onto dogs - particularly breeds with longer fur. They can pe*****te their way into the skin, causing harmful injuries that could potentially require surgery.

Always check your dog's fur thoroughly after woodland walks or running through meadows. Monitor their behaviour by keeping an eye out for the warning signs of grass seeds - this could be head shaking, limping, coughing, sneezing, paw licking and lethargy.

If you spot a grass seed, gently remove it with your hands or tweezers - if its burrowed deeper (sometimes you may not even see it!), take your dog to the vet immediately.

Ever wondered what a tick looks like? …Bear in mind when they are feeding they can appear like a little purplish bubble. This is due to the engorgement.. not very pleasant & best removed intact by the head asap!

🕷 Ticks vary in size depending on their age and whether or not they have had a blood meal recently.

Nymph ticks can be as small as poppy seeds and can easily be missed. An engorged tick can be pea-sized or bigger.

There are many species of tick but some examples can be found in the picture above.

🔍 If you are unsure whether a creature is a tick, it’s worth running a Google image search or posting a picture on our Public page www.facebook.com/LymeDiseaseUK
