Blackpool Gull Guardians

Blackpool Gull Guardians We are a specialist voluntary team created for the protection of healthy baby gulls that are deemed to be at high risk if left at their location.

All birds in our care are screened by Brambles Wildlife Rescue for injury or illness in the first instance.

We are gratefully speechless tonight after receiving a wonderful . Thank you so much D C Rankine, for the amazing selection of goods which are so badly needed by our during season.

Thanks to your donation, we now have enough food for each guardian to feed several gulls immediately when the 2026 season begins- words cannot express what that means to us. 🄰

Please feel free to message us, whoever you are, we would love to say thank you directly to you…

For now, please accept this post as a huge thank you from all of us, and what will be a lot of hungry little gulls next spring ā™„ļø

Mealtimes are fun during … we try to avoid bread, although it’s filling, it’s nothing like the wild diet which is comprised of shellfish, fish, small mammals, worms and other insects… even some of the foods we feed our garden birds like mealworms and peanuts. Some human foods can also help out when stock is running low.

Yes they feed on rubbish but some of their natural diet has been depleted so what choice do they have?

Now’s the time to stock up on cheap frozen fish and meat, tinned fish, cat and dog food other items which provide the nutrition similar to a gulls wild diet.

You can help out by just feeding your resident couple to help them provide for their new babies in the spring.

Even freezing leftovers over Xmas will help our gull families and you can defrost a little bit at a time for them.

Thanks to all of you who continue to support your local birds throughout the year… we appreciate you ā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļø

FLUFFIES! Sometimes life is tough and we need a little encouragement to push on. How’s about being a few days old and finding yourself with no parents?

Well these little ones found themselves in a similar scenario earlier this year, but were lucky enough to end up in the hands of one of our specialist gull mommas.

We praised our recently, but we should also praise ourselves. We fight through fatigue, stress and balancing family life throughout the summer and beyond, but look at them, how can we say no?

shopping list item #1… paddling pool.

Paddling pools are great enrichment for our juvenile gulls and these take many forms, from dog pools, plastic tubs, children’s paddling pools and more.

Although we still have a good few months left, we will soon be staring to stock up on supplies for the 2026 season…

We really appreciate all the help that our followers and supporters give us. We will soon be stocking up our Amazon wish list with some items which will help us with next years foster babies. We will also be advertising opportunities for you to help us in our work!

Keep an eye on the page, and our wish list ā™„ļø

We talk a lot about the work we do with gulls, how we support them and care for them… but we don’t often shed light on why we do what we do, and what gulls do for us.

Elton is a great example of a gull who asks very little but provides so much. Elton was a foster baby in 2024, who still visits his foster carer Heather a couple of times a week. In Heathers words

ā€˜Elton has always been there for me, he seems to know when I need cheering up, or reminding of what’s important in life. That is not the stress of work, finances and living, but the simplicity of caring for something other than yourself.’

The joy that can bring a person is unmeasurable, so today we want you to … who are your wonderful wild feathered friends keeping your spirits high?

Maybe it’s not a gull but another member of our UK wildlife… show us your pics in the comments and let’s dedicate this post to the happiness they bring 😊

Wow! We can’t believe how long it’s been since we posted, and that just shows you how busy we have all been. Although the season is over, Brambles Wildlife Rescue are still working with gulls all year round.

You may notice that our beautiful gulls look a little different this time of year… what a wonderful picture of ā€˜Gully’ to highlight this.

Gully looks a bit more gothic than usual, and no this isn’t a Halloween šŸŽƒ costume šŸ˜€ , it is winter plumage!

Although in winter, adult gulls are often confused for juveniles due to their darker feathers, this is just a normal part of their seasonal moult. This shows us that the weather is changing, as we head towards the cold months ā„ļø

More to come from us soon, as we gear up for the 2026 season ā™„ļø

This is Nutmeg who came to us back in May at just a couple of days old.
Look at her now, being loud and proud, as she wishes you all a "Good Morning"! ā¤ļø
She is almost ready to be released, to fly high and live her best life.
Thank you to those of you who have donated towards making this possible - each and every donation is hugely appreciated, no matter how small.
ā€¼ļøWe have local drop off points if you have any spare tins/pouches of cat food, straw/hay, puppy pads, etc
ā€¼ļøWe also have an Amazon wishlist

And …. FINALLY! these 2 beautiful Gulls were released over Fleetwood Marsh on Sunday. What a wonderful day for it! šŸ•Šļø

A usual thing for gulls to do which is ever so cute, is a thank you circle and scream above as they fly on to this new lives… this will NEVER get boring for us šŸ˜ā€¦people do find it hard to understand how we can care for them so greatly then watch them fly off, but it’s exactly why we do what we do… nothing prouder than the moment where you see all of your hard work pay off, and watch them fly away.

As 2 or 3 leave, new gulls take their spot in foster care thick and fast. During this stage of the season we are caring for a few more TLC birds with limps and the like, and of course the regular incomings, then those who just need some space for a few weeks… it’s never ending. But we push on šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

We are currently caring for over 40 gulls between us, and we are self funded meaning that our Guardians pay for the food and care for the gulls while they are with us.

Your donations, whether it be a physical donation from our Amazon wishlist, a drop off at one of our locations, or a monetary donation to help us fund the care of our wonderful sea birds, make ALL the difference.

Hello all ā™„ļø as the year steams ahead (where does the time go?! -we must be having fun!) time flies… and our gulls are certainly trying their best too! šŸ•Šļø

These crossed feathers can only mean one thing… we are very close to lift off. As you can see, some of our gulls will be ready to fly before others- this just depends on their age.

Although some of our gulls are almost ready to leave, that does not stop the revolving door of other gulls which need help… and food.. lots and lots of food! We are currently caring for 40 gulls and counting!

Fantastic news! It’s Amazon prime day (8th-11th July) and there are some amazing savings on bulk cat food…. If you would like to send our gulls some much needed supplies, now is the time to do a good deed for our wonderful sea birds 🐦 and save yourself some pennies šŸ’°

We cannot thank you all enough for helping us through what will become an even busier season as the summer continues… love to all of our supporters ā™„ļøā™„ļø
