Meet Attila — our wonderful locum vet from Hungary, who joins us from time to time and has helped so many of our patients over the years 🩺🐾

You might be surprised to hear that Attila didn’t actually grow up with animals! It wasn’t until he discovered the books of James Herriot that he knew Veterinary life was for him. As Attila puts it:

“Well, you can blame the Scots… the first time I read James Herriot’s books, I knew that was the life I wanted to live.”

Since then, Attila has treated an incredible variety of animals and species — including dolphins, sea otters, skunks, alpacas, Arctic foxes, chameleons, and many more! 🐬🦦🦙🦊

When asked about his favourite Veterinary memory, Attila shared this story:

“Once I was called out to treat some Highland cows in the Outer Hebrides. I drove through snow-covered peaks to a breach beside the Atlantic Ocean. While chasing the cows, I could feel the sea breeze and admire the beautiful sandy beach.”

We always love having Attila visit the practice, and he loves catching up with all the little friends he helps while he’s here ❤️

🐾 Important Notice 🐾

Please be aware that dogs are prohibited on the beach in front of our veterinary practice which is within the marked areas flagged in the beach, from 1st May to 30th September in line with local seasonal restrictions.

For your information drones have been patrolling this area of the beach and fines will be put in place for people who do not cooperate.

We kindly ask all dog owners to follow the signage and use the designated dog-friendly areas nearby during this period.

This is Viktoria our newest member to the Andrew Mellor Vets veterinary team. Vik has given us a little look into who she is and what makes her tick.

“Alright, so I’ve been in the UK for 150 days now- I moved here from Hungary 🇭🇺, I’ve got two boys: one is grown up and the other is 13 and will be joining me over the summer. I love animals, nature, books and travelling. I’ve got a hippie soul and a lot of compassion for all living things.”

Viktoria has always wanted to be a vet and claims that it is in her DNA 🧬. She was always surrounded by animals when she was growing up dogs 🐶, cats 🐱, parrots 🦜, chinchillas, Guinea pigs 🐹 , goats 🐐, iguanas 🦎, bearded dragons 🐉 you name it.

Viktoria has done it all from treating chameleons and boa constrictors to porcupines when the circus was in her home town in Hungary.

One of our clients has just received a call from someone claiming to be from "Andrew Mellor Vets" stating they had an outstanding bill and needed to pay immediately.

They thankfully knew to ask which pet the bill referred to and the scammer couldn't give that information. If you ever receive a call from us the staff concerned will be able to give pets names etc and dates any outstanding moneys relate to. If in doubt hang up and phone us back asking for the member of staff.

Stay safe out there. I would never want anyone to be a victim of scams or fraud. .

We had this happy, friendly one brought in to us as a stray last night just after closing time; was found by a member of the public near the Golden Eagle pub. There is a microchip but details are not up to date. We will need photographic evidence and further details about the dog in order to confirm ownership🐶🐾💙
