I rarely rant! But here it is 😡…..
Almost weekly, we are receiving enquiries from potential clients who are struggling with their ‘rescue’ dogs aggression
The enquiry forms / messages have been stating ‘breed’ as Rottweiler cross (this is taken from the paperwork given to new owners by the rescue shelters) We then receive a photograph of a dog that is VERY CLEARLY a Bully cross, Bull herder, Bull Lurcher - and very often a Pit Bull cross
A lot of these dogs are liabilities, and they should never have reached homes with not only inexperienced handlers, but also children and other pets!
Yesterday, I went to an emergency call out, to a very distressed family who asked for a second opinion regarding their aggressive dog - before they euthanised him. Their dog had attempted a bite to the throat area of a family member. Their dog was biting the crate, causing injury to himself, every time their child walked past the crate
Having spoken with the owners in depth, this behaviour had been escalating over a long period of time - they didn’t receive any back up from the large charitable organisation, who handed this dog over as a ‘Rottweiler mix’
I agreed with the families decision to euthanise their dog. It was absolutely the correct decision, but it doesn’t sit comfortably with me, and they are heartbroken 💔
Ultimately, the entire responsibility should fall back to the breeder of the dog - this is were any lawful changes should be implemented first! Forget exemptions, banning tools and implementation of force free ideology!
Whether it’s a result of nonchalance or naivety - a Pit Bull cross, with an unstable / unreliable temperament was adopted out to an innocent family, who only wanted to give him a loving home - the rescue organisations need to sort their s**t out
Neither the dog, nor the family, should have been put through this ordeal 😔🐾💔
-Thankyou for the family allowing me to use this photo which they cherish from better times.
