That's a really good video, and it shows how important contact is with e-collars. Things like the right contact points, positioning, or even a bungee collar can make a big difference.
A lot of people mess these things up or cause issues, so definitely get help from a trainer who knows their stuff.
If you've got any questions about e-collars, just ask.
We're taking bookings for e-collar courses, and we're Dogtra UK Master Trainers 🇬🇧🙌

We Love This ❤️

Just Margot and I, chilling on a field 🌾🧘‍♀️

It doesn’t look exciting, because it isn’t!

I haven’t asked for her to do anything, she hasn’t been commanded to hold a down (she isn’t tethered) - I just took her out of my van and I sat down on the grass!

There are dogs, people, vehicles coming and going in the car park, and children in the park 20 meters away

Relaxing isn’t exciting, it’s a moment, a chance to take in the environment, process our surroundings, switch off temporarily, share the same space and bond 🐾

How often do you incorporate this into your dogs training journey?

This didn’t start off as ‘easy’ for Margot (impulse control was never her strong point 🥴)

We trained for this on rinse and repeat 🔁

Find a bench, a quiet spot, a patch of grass, a chair in your front garden - and just ‘sit’

🧩Problem solving🧩

This is an issue that I witness a lot (during initial behavioural assessments) Whether I’m working with an 8 week old puppy, or an 8 year old dog 🐕 The picture usually looks the same 🖼️

As a mother of three (all under five at one point) I have spent A LOT of time over the years chasing around after toddlers! Having to have eyes in the back of my head! 👀

However, at some points in time, my kids were too quick and they did ‘the thing’ This usually resulted in tears, an ‘ouchie’ a couple of bruises or a mess made (eye twitching for my OCD 🥴)

If ‘the thing’ generated a consequence which wasn’t desirable enough for them to seek it out again (my eldest grabbing a handful of nettles springs to mind) - then they wouldn’t! ❌

But…… if the consequence to ‘THEIR’ actions, only resulted in ‘ME’ feeling uncomfortable and not them (a 4 litre bottle of milk all over the kitchen floor because she absolutely HAD to carry it) then there may still be a desire for them to repeat ‘the thing’ again - because I cleaned it up⚠️

If you’re a dog owner and you constantly feel the need to assist your dog, during all times which would otherwise require for them to think - you may well be removing their ability / capacity to problem solve 🧩

Therefore, the benefit of consequence (yes - it can be beneficial) is lost, due to it being absorbed by you!

If it is safe and common sense is being applied (by the humans) - LET THEM WORK IT OUT 🐾🐕

It builds confidence, motivation, engagement and most importantly, TRUST in your human / canine relationship 🤎🖤🤍

I rarely rant! But here it is 😡…..

Almost weekly, we are receiving enquiries from potential clients who are struggling with their ‘rescue’ dogs aggression

The enquiry forms / messages have been stating ‘breed’ as Rottweiler cross (this is taken from the paperwork given to new owners by the rescue shelters) We then receive a photograph of a dog that is VERY CLEARLY a Bully cross, Bull herder, Bull Lurcher - and very often a Pit Bull cross

A lot of these dogs are liabilities, and they should never have reached homes with not only inexperienced handlers, but also children and other pets!

Yesterday, I went to an emergency call out, to a very distressed family who asked for a second opinion regarding their aggressive dog - before they euthanised him. Their dog had attempted a bite to the throat area of a family member. Their dog was biting the crate, causing injury to himself, every time their child walked past the crate

Having spoken with the owners in depth, this behaviour had been escalating over a long period of time - they didn’t receive any back up from the large charitable organisation, who handed this dog over as a ‘Rottweiler mix’

I agreed with the families decision to euthanise their dog. It was absolutely the correct decision, but it doesn’t sit comfortably with me, and they are heartbroken 💔

Ultimately, the entire responsibility should fall back to the breeder of the dog - this is were any lawful changes should be implemented first! Forget exemptions, banning tools and implementation of force free ideology!

Whether it’s a result of nonchalance or naivety - a Pit Bull cross, with an unstable / unreliable temperament was adopted out to an innocent family, who only wanted to give him a loving home - the rescue organisations need to sort their s**t out

Neither the dog, nor the family, should have been put through this ordeal 😔🐾💔

-Thankyou for the family allowing me to use this photo which they cherish from better times.

🐾✨ Calling all passionate dog trainers and owners! Let’s talk about real solutions for our furry friends like Lass! 🐶💕

It’s time to rethink the idea of keeping a dog on a longline for life! 🚫📏 Instead, let’s embrace the incredible benefits of balanced training using professional tools like ecollars for recall and livestock avoidance.

When Lass had her longline on, she didn’t dare to roam freely; she recognised it as a barrier. 🧐 The team had to get creative in their approach! Every time she went missing for hours, it was because she managed to escape, definitely concerning in her rural home filled with sheep, deer, rabbits, foxes, and badgers! 🦙🌲🐾

She couldn’t even accompany her owners to the stables without chasing after the horses and resident cats! 🐈‍⬛🐴 Her owners tried various methods like predation substitutes, positive-only training, and high-value treats, but, unsurprisingly, they didn’t yield the results they hoped for!

With just a short investment of time using balanced training methods, we achieved reliable recall and livestock avoidance—transforming Lass's behaviour drastically without looking back! 🙌🏼 (Well, except for her adorable ‘checking in’! 🩷)

A huge THANK YOU to Lisa North Yorkshire Dog Training for bringing me into this incredible team to finalise Lass's journey due to her being unwell. Let’s spread the word about effective, compassionate training! 🌟

"Prison is a hard place... but don’t be fooled, Boss is living the luxury life behind bars! 🐾😂 Crate training isn’t punishment, it’s a safe haven, even if he’s giving us his 'let me out, I’m innocent!' face. Little does he know, it’s all part of teaching him to chill like a champ. 💖 "

🌟🐶 Exciting News from South Yorkshire Dog Training! 🐾✨

Meet Ronnie, our adorable Shar Pei x Frenchie! 🐕❤️ He’s joined us to tackle some reactivity challenges he faces in the world around him. 🥰 While his dedicated owners have already made wonderful progress with him, we’re here to help him overcome a few hurdles together!

During Ronnie's time with us, we’ll focus on building his confidence, most of his reactivity stems from fear, with some traits possibly being genetic, too. 🧠💔 By integrating him into our fantastic pack, he’ll quickly learn that other dogs can be neutral or even FUN! 🎉🤗

Our training sessions will include:
- Obedience Training in new environments to help him relax and focus. ✨
- Building his recall skills so he can enjoy off-lead adventures and learn to explore the world confidently! 🌍🥳

It’s important to remember that sometimes, human emotions can inadvertently affect a dog’s training journey. ❤️😌 We strive to provide a balanced approach, ensuring both dogs and owners thrive together! 🛠️🤝

Stay tuned for updates on Ronnie’s journey to confidence and joy! Together, we’ll show the world what a little love and training can do! 💖
