At happy Pawventures you can be sure that all dogs in our care are treated like the family, little Milo decided it was too cold this morning and took one of our blankets and wrapped himself up in it

🚨 HEATSTROKE IN DOGS 🚨
Earlier today I had a call from a client in a panic because he suspected his dog was suffering from heatstroke. Thankfully the dog is okay, but it reminded me just how quickly this can happen and how important it is that dog owners know the signs and what to do.
🐶 Signs of heatstroke: • Excessive panting • Thick, sticky drool • Bright red gums or tongue • Rapid heartbeat • Weakness or lethargy • Vomiting or diarrhoea • Wobbling or collapsing • Confusion or disorientation • Seizures • Loss of consciousness
✅ What to do: • Move your dog to a cool, shaded area immediately. • Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water. • Pour cool water over their body, especially their belly, paws, armpits and inner thighs. • Use a fan if available. • Contact your vet immediately and continue cooling your dog on the way there.
❌ What NOT to do: • Don't use ice or ice-cold water. • Don't cover them with wet towels as this can trap heat. • Don't force them to drink. • Don't wait to see if they improve before calling a vet. • Don't exercise them again, even if they seem better.
The temperatures we've had recently might feel manageable to us, but our dogs can struggle very quickly. Please think carefully before walking your dog in hot weather. An early morning walk, a late evening stroll, or even a day off from walks is far safer than risking your dog's life.
Stay safe and keep those paws cool. ❤️🐾

With temperatures set to rise this week, all dog walks will be adjusted to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the dogs in my care.

Please avoid walking your dogs during the hottest part of the day, particularly around midday when temperatures are at their highest. Dogs can quickly suffer from heat exhaustion and heatstroke, which can be life-threatening.

Remember, dogs won't come to any harm from missing a walk. There are plenty of ways to keep them mentally stimulated and entertained at home, such as enrichment games, training sessions, puzzle toys, scent work, and indoor play.

Their safety always comes first. Stay cool and stay safe. ☀️🐾
