Letโs talk ๐
๐ฅ๐๐๐ฌ:
The most common ectoparasite!
Fleas are very small insects that can affect many animals including dogs, cats, wildlife and even humans. When a flea lands on your pet (their host), it will bite to feed on blood. These bites can cause ๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด, ๐ข๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and over time ๐ก๐๐ข๐ซ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ. In some cases, it can cause ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ or even ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ from one animal to another ๐
Fleas reproduce quickly (each flea lays approx. 25 eggs every 24 hours!). These eggs often fall off your pet into the environment, such as bedding, carpets, furniture, and cracks in flooring, making infestations challenging to control. Flea eggs & pupae can lie dormant in the environment until ideal conditions cause them to hatch, such as warmth or vibrations, which would indicate a host is nearby ๐

๐คฉ Here is some advice for treating an infestation in your home:
โ
Treat all pets at home with the parasite treatment prescribed by your vet
โ
Do nฬฒoฬฒtฬฒ wash or let your pet get wet for a minimum of 48 hours after a spot-on treatment as this will reduce its effectiveness
โ
Wash all bedding and clothing at minimum 60 degrees Celsius to ensure any fleas, eggs and larvae present are killed completely
โ
Ask us about a household spray, such as Indorex, to help kill fleas found in the environment
โ
Hoover daily and thoroughly to ensure no flea eggs are left in the environment. This will include hoovering the floor, skirting boards and furniture โ it is estimated that 95% of flea eggs, larvae and pupae live in the environment, not on a host!
โ
You must immediately throw away the hoover bag after each hoover to prevent eggs from hatching, further worsening the infestation
โ
Keep up to date with parasite treatment to prevent an infestation in the future
Prevention is better than cure!
