It’s that time again—Know Your Dog (KYD) is back with more weird and wonderful dog facts 😎

First up, did you know dogs have three eyelids? A top, a bottom, and a sneaky wee third one called the nictitating membrane. Sounds like something out of a sci-fi film, but it’s just there to keep their eyes moist and protected. Essentially, built-in goggles 👀

And if you ever thought your dog was a bit daft, think again. Studies show they’re about as smart as a two-year-old child 🧠. They can understand up to 250 words and gestures, count to five, and even do basic maths. So next time your dog ignores you, just remember—they probably understand, they’re just choosing not to listen 😂

This week’s Know Your Dog (KYD) is all about record-breakers in the dog world!

The tallest dog ever recorded stood at an incredible 44 inches (3ft 6in) at the shoulder. To put that into perspective, that’s about the same height as an average kitchen counter! Imagine coming home to find your dog helping himself to whatever’s on top.

And when it comes to ancient history, the Saluki holds the title for the oldest known dog breed. Dating back over 4,000 years, these dogs were highly prized by Egyptian pharaohs and even mummified alongside their owners. Talk about being treated like royalty!

Did you know that dogs have over 100 facial expressions? They communicate in ways we might not always notice… their faces are constantly telling us how they feel! 🐶

And here’s something pretty impressive - dogs have a sense of time! They can tell the difference between a few minutes and a few hours, some can even anticipate when their owners are about to come home.
