Its been a while since I last posted about this girly but I have never stopped being proud of her and her owners. Even with the bumps in the road we've had since we began training, she has made such impressive progress. Where we took her to meet one of her owners coming home from work in the dark where there were a lot of her triggers around (strangers, mopeds and the like) and she was the calmest Shepherd in all the land. Reactivity work is hard, Reactivity work takes time and patience, sometimes it feels like you're hitting a brick wall or going backwards but you can achieve amazing things through positive reinforcement and reward based training even with a high drive breed. #

Alf is coming on so well with his reactivity training! He absolutely adores being out in Beckenham Place Park for it because there is so much space and so much for him to do he really gets to empty his cup and learn the skills he needs to help him cope with triggers #

For a young dog very early on in his reactivity training journey, Alf is already starting to make some good choices. Yes he's still lunging towards other dogs at the end of his lead. However he's recovery time has got faster, and he's frequency has decreased slightly you can also see him start to think a little before he's gone over. Well done Alf! Good job!!

When working with a high drive dog like Alf here, it is important we get him as calm as possible before he comes across any triggers. We started our first reactivity training session with scent and find it games to help get him in tune with the environment and coming to check in with us after. For his first session he did very well, ignored a lot of people and birds and only had a reaction to a cockapoo who decided to enter a staring competition with a cattle dog. #
