For most horses, meeting their neighbors over the fence is an everyday occurrence. For six-year-old Courage, it’s something we don’t take for granted.

Before Courage arrived at The Dorset Equine Rescue, he had spent years confined to a stall. The gate to his stall was completely embedded in nearly five feet of frozen manure, making it impossible to open. He had no turnout, no opportunity to interact with other horses, and not even a window to look outside and watch the world go by.

Today, things look very different.

Here he is introducing himself to a couple of the Friesian girls over the fence. It may seem like a small moment, but for a horse who spent so long isolated from the simple experiences most horses enjoy every day, moments like these are worth celebrating.

Every curious greeting, every new friendship, and every chance to simply be a horse is another step forward in Courage’s journey.

And judging by the conversation taking place over that fence, we’d say he’s making new friends just fine. ❤️
