Sambourne Stud

Sambourne Stud Located at Minety in Wiltshire on prime stock rearing land, Sambourne Stud covers approximately 40 acres of the finest English pasture.

Sambourne Stud has established a reputation as an outstanding stallion station, rehabilitation centre and stud. My name is Heather and I am well known in the area, with over 35 years' experience with horses, from breeding to competing. I held an amateur racing licence for a season, point to pointing for local trainers and has extensive experience as a work rider with local Race Horse Trainers. I h

ave enjoyed many years as a successful breeder and has a re-known reputation for giving ex racing mares a second lease of life the majority of which form the Stud’s foundation residential broodmare operation. I have taken on many mares who have either suffered a career ending injury, not fast enough or simply fallen out of love with the “game” and their owners have wanted them to have a second career chance. If you feel you have a broodmare suitable to be part of the resident broodmare team do contact Heather. As one of the only coloured breeders in the area, my stallion Sambourne Jim Bob has produced some excellent offspring and the Stud is now looking forward to a new crop of foals by Sambourne Kratos who is now the resident Stud Stallion following Jim Bob's death in January 2020. I am extremely approachable and always willing to help with any queries or problems.

****Tragic news ******

Foal died in early hours of Thursday morning from septicemia. Because the placenta was very light and the foal tiny vet suspects she was infected whilst in the uterus or possibly inhaled during the birth and given Mo is a first time Mum she may have taken her time during the process as she was not experienced. However, to be sure we will swab her uterus for infection when she comes into season and get that tested. If that comes back positive it will be treated and she will be swabbed again until she is clear but it will give us a likely indication that the foal contracted septicemia whilst in the uterus.
