Long before Penwood Equine, there was Penwood the racehorse.

In the early 1980s, Penwood was racing across the Midlands, with wins at Worcester and Warwick, and placing at Cheltenham in 1982.

These photographs capture some favourite moments in the parade ring, on the course, and with quiet pride at home with the Elkes Trophy from Uttoxeter.

The yard looks different today, but the thread running through it is the same.

Penwood has always belonged to horses.

Field Notes📝

Between showers, there’s been time for steady rides, unhurried grooming, and the small rituals that quietly keep everything ticking along.

At the mineral bar, turmeric chops have been making a regular appearance — and you can feel the lift in energy as the days stretch just a little longer.

And now, a shift. Brighter mornings, clearer skies, and that unmistakable feeling of the land beginning to dry out at last. Horses striding on, ears forward, mud slowly loosening its grip.

Spring feels close. 🌱

Sorry we have been so quiet- we have decided to take a step back from social media promotion as we have not had any livery vacancies for so long!
We are still full to the brim - however our friend Georgina has been busy making a fantastic fully surfaced track of her own!
George has had horses with us for years, has worked with horses her whole life and was the person who first introduced me to the concept of track systems. She was instrumental in the setting up our track, advised me on all stages and her husband even made the track. She has worked with me the whole way through and is the person I turn to for advice on all things horsey!
She has also had the benefit of learning from all our mistakes 😂 so I know her set up will be perfect ❤️
She is aiming to be open from the start of October. I recommend anyone that is considering a track system for their horse to get in touch with her asap as she will fill up very quickly. Any horse will be lucky to go there: Penwood stables will really miss her.
Her number is 07976 615671 and the track is near Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
