With rabbit awareness week coming up, let's talk about Hay! 🌾
Hay is an essential part of a rabbits diet- it's not just a snack, it's the full course! It should make up around 90% of their diet - but why?
💚Rabbits have sensitive digestive systems, which are constantly on the go, hay is full of fibre to assist in keeping it moving. If rabbits don't get enough fibre they're at risk of developing GI Stasis.
💚Tooth wear - Rabbits teeth are constantly growing! Our Meadow hays contain a mixture of grasses and stems to help keep your rabbits teeth down.
💚 Provides mental stimulation and enrichment. There are lots of things you can do with hay to keep it exciting- whether that's using our Timothy Rich hays with forage already added to it, or putting it in play tubes or hay feeders.
💚 Encourages their natural eating behaviours
💚Improves their poo quality. That's right, we said poo! You can tell alot about rabbits health by their poo. They should produce a steady supply of round, dry and golden/brown poos each day with hay in their diet.
💚 Weight control. Most hay types are high in volume, but lower in calories. Offering unlimited hay helps to keep your rabbits fuller for longer, without the need of excess pellets, which can help prevent obsiety. There are some types of hay such as alfalfa which can help with weight gain.
💚 A great source of vitamins, minerals and nutrients needed in your rabbits diet!
Our Hay Feeders are not only a great way to elevate they hay and keeping it fresher for longer, but also to reduce hay waste!
It's also easier to refill and monitor your rabbits hay, with less mess too!
It helps to encourage your little ones natural foraging behaviours, whilst also being easy for them to access.
