The things that make us smile 😃

This cow needed a caesarean as a heifer last year, we are very pleased to hear that a year later she has naturally calved a belting calf and is doing well!

🚨 Equine Influenza Update – Stay Vigilant 🚨

As of 7 May, there have been 44 confirmed equine influenza outbreaks across 28 counties in the UK, with further cases pending. A significant number of these cases are linked to recent horse movement, highlighting the increased risk when travelling during periods of heightened disease activity.

While unvaccinated horses make up the majority of cases, it’s important to note that even vaccinated horses can be affected, and the virus can spread through the air over several kilometres — meaning no yard is completely risk-free.

Ensure vaccinations are up to date
Isolate new or returning horses for at least two weeks
Maintain strict biosecurity measures on the yard
Stay alert for symptoms: cough, fever, nasal discharge, loss of appetite

If your horse shows any signs, isolate immediately and contact us.

There have been 339 cases of Bluetongue in Great Britain in the 2025 to 2026 bluetongue season (since 1 July 2025).

1 May 2026:
One new case of BTV-3 was confirmed in England on 1 May 2026 following a report of suspicious clinical signs:
1stillborn calf in Cumbria with brain deformities

30 April 2026:
One new case of BTV-3 was confirmed in England on 30 April 2026 following a report of suspicious clinical signs:
1 aborted calf in Cumbria with brain deformities, enlarged spleen and liver damage.

Temperatures are rising and the midges that spread bluetongue became active again on 2 April 2026. Experts still consider the risk of spread through midges to be very low because it hasn’t been warm enough for long enough for the virus to develop inside the midges. However, there is still a risk that animals can get infected through germinal products (semen, ova or embryos).
