The Greyhound is a breed of sighthound that has been primarily bred for coursing game and racing, and the breed has also recently seen a resurgence in its popularity as a pedigree show

dog and family pet. A combination of long, powerful legs, deep chest, flexible spine, and slim build allows it to reach average race speeds in excess of 18 metres per second (59 feet per second) or 63 kilometres per hour (39 mph).. At maximum acceleration, a greyhound reaches a full speed of 70 kilometres per hour (43 mph) within 30 metres or six strides from the boxes, traveling at almost 20 metres per second for the first 250 metres of a race. The only other animal that can accelerate faster over a short distance is the cheetah, which can reach speeds of 109 kilometres per hour (68 mph) over 3-4 strides from a standing start. Description
Appearance
Males are usually 71 to 76 centimetres (28 to 30 in) tall at the withers and weigh around 27 to 40 kilograms (60 to 88 lb). Females tend to be smaller with shoulder heights ranging from 68 to 71 centimetres (27 to 28 in) and weights from less than 27 to 34 kilograms (60 to 75 lb). There are approximately thirty recognized color forms, of which variations of white, brindle, fawn, black, red and blue (gray) can appear uniquely or in combination. Anatomy
The key to the speed of a Greyhound can be found in its light but muscular build, largest heart, and highest percentage of fast-twitch muscle of any breed, the double suspension gallop and the extreme flexibility of the spine. "Double suspension rotary gallop" describes the fastest running gait of the Greyhound in which all four feet are free from the ground in two phases, contracted and extended, during each full stride.

Anyone that follows our page knows of Miss Nova .With us a very long time nearly 2 years but if any dog deserved the best life it was her . So long waiting for a home to call her own she was sadly overlooked but we never gave up . We don’t normally have dogs waiting long to find their forever homes but Miss Nova and another Girl we Had Miss Peppa are 2 who waited the longest . Most people know we just don’t hand out dogs to anyone they have to be a match for the family or home they are going too and maybe this makes it harder for us to find the right homes .I always go into a home on a homecheck and think Would I let one of my dogs live here another reason it is ciara and myself who personally go out and do the homecheck and speak with potential adopters . I know it’s the summer months and people are on holidays and maybe a reason rehoming is slow .At the minute we have 6 wonderful dogs looking for their forever homes Baloo ,Miska ,Oscar and Smokie ,Bliss and last but not least Arnold . Pleas when we ask to Share please post wherever you can and try and help us find these beautiful dogs their homes as we have a waiting list of dogs to come in after them . I love seeing photos and updates about all our dogs and great meeting up with them at the walks .We are always on hand for advice or anything you need to know or ask .I hope you all enjoyed seeing these photos of Nova as much as I did .She puts the biggest smile ever on my face as she literally battled a lot when she was so unwell .Now she is eating raw food and on no medication all her tummy issues in my eyes were due to stress ..Just look at her now a very happy chilled out girl .A big Thank you to Maraied for recount her into her home and family 🥰

We really need EVERYONE that follows us to please SHARE our beautiful dogs awaiting their new homes .We have Oscar and Smokie (who come as a pair ) Arnold that has been her since Feb , Baloo ,Miska and Bliss .We have another girl we need to take nect week who has been waiting since Oct 23 . Each dog costs us £20 a week which is very cheap as we use Private Boarding kennels and they are very good to us . Without them we could not do what we do . 6 dogs soon to become 7 @£20 a week my mathematics say .£120 a week . Some have been here awhile 🙈Along with food bills and vet bills it’s a lot of money .That is why it is very important for you to share each and every post you never know who will see it .. We have also lots of dogs waiting to come in and we really don’t know what to do .Every night we go to sleep we wonder what is going to happen . I am so surprised no one has snapped up this gorgeous pair .Yes it’s a decision that needs to be made sensibly because they are 2 .They just love to laze about after their walks and after dinner they just snooze the evening away .2 dogs are just as easy as one to handle /Walk.Oscar walks by your side on the lead but Miss Smokie likes to walk out front as she just loves meeting people 🤣🤣This pair were in a home for a short time so are housetrained and here they are very clean in their kennels . Oscar is just a big snuggle buddies as he loves to lie and cuddle beside you and if Miss Smokie can fit in she joins in 🤣🤣.Yes Oscar is a little shy of people but once you meet him and take him for a walk he will be your best friend . We would love to find these 2 their forever home such a brilliant pair and keep each other company .They would need a home where it is not too busy with young children with Oscar being that little bit shy but he just loves my nieces .Please if you are interested in giving this pair a home please contact the page .There will need to be a few visits to make Oscar feel comfortable.He is what we call a spook greyhound he is scared of his own shadow lol 😂

Bliss is such a sweetheart once she gets to know you, she’s a little timid girl and unsure of new things but give her a few days and she’s your best friend glued to your side. She gets on great with the other greyhounds and might be best if there is another large dog in the home to keep her company but this isn’t a must. She can pull strong on the lead but again this is due to her being unsure and with time and patience she will settle. She can be alert to smaller dogs also but again this retired life is all new to her. She really is the sweetest girl and would make a great companion for someone. Needs a home with children older than 12yrs

Balloos mummy Miska who is also Sunnies mum who was adopted through us .She is an ex coursing dog and if anyone knows the coursing dogs are a little bigger but also more laid back than their track dog chums .We are so sad to see these guys waiting .It really gets us down because if cannot find these dogs a home we cannot help anymore dogs 🥲Is this the end for us to Stop rehoming ?

Handsome boy Mr Baloo has also been waiting a while now for his forever home .We hate to see dogs spend a long time waiting .Not only does it cost a s a lot of money but it also stops another dog coming in and we really have a long waiting list ..Are there no homes left out there for these dogs ??

Is there nobody out there for these beautiful dogs .We have now put a Stop to adding anymore dogs to our list we have a lot waiting to come in some waiting from Nov last year . I’m hoping it’s just because of the summer holidays as we cannot continue with so many dogs waiting so long to either come in or to be homed . Please help by continually sharing our dogs looking for homes .

HELP!! I’m in a bit of a bind. My dog sitter (booked in February) seems to have gone AWOL and is not responding to my messages. I’m really stuck for someone to mind my Cassie (greyhound whippet x) whilst I’m on my hols. Anyone know anyone trustworthy who could stay in my house with her for 10 days? I will pay of course.
I don’t think as it’s so late now,(I go next weekend) Cassie would settle with someone she doesn’t know in their home as she’s a very sensitive soul and I don’t want to traumatise her. That’s why I think it would be better for someone to stay here, then hopefully she’ll not think I’ve abandoned her.
My hearts breaking for my girl. So unprofessional!! Any suggestions welcome! Pm me if you need more information.

This is Sunnie she is the Daughter of Miska and the sister of Baloo who we have here for rehoming.She went off to her home 2 months ago and has settled in very well .They say it’s like she has always been there . Miska and Baloo are also great dogs and would settle into a home very quickly .All ex coursing dogs who are bit more chilled out than the track dogs .

Great news for Missy she has been officially adopted .Because there was a young child in the house she went for a trial stay to see how she got on .Like a true greyhound you can see from the photos that she is just a lazy lump 😂😂😂She has settled in very well .Another Greyhound that was overlooked because we assume her age as she is an older girl but age is only a number .❤️❤️

Lovely walk today at Antrim Castle Gardens .My Dad must have been looking down on his Birthday as the sun was out and we had a great dry walk . Thank you to everyone that came along and it was lovely to see my mum coming along .My brother and his wife Tanya were there too as Katie my niece has fallen in love with Oscar so the whole family joined us for our walk .Paul walked my boy Fred and little Amy walked Katie .My Sister was there too as she is now a regular coming along to walk Miss Lucky …Lovely to see everyone and it was a different day celebrating my dad’s birthday as he loved the greyhounds .Thank you Bernie ,Thomas and Rebekah for helping out and a big Thank you to Ciara and Kathleen for my lovely bunch of flowers .Hope to see you all again soon .Keep an eye on the page for updates of walks .

These 2 are just so sweet and just love attention and cuddles .Last night I lay down on the single bed in the kennels to watch a film on Netflix and both of them joined me .It didn’t take Oscar long to get used to me but he is still stand offish with strangers .Once he had met you a couple of times he is fine .At the minute the 2 of them are snoozing away after their dinner on the sofa .They do always lie together . They really are sweethearts and very good . Our goal is to find them a loving home together.They both walk very well on the lead Oscar walks by your side and Smokie out in front ,she wants to meet and greet everyone.Come along if you can to our walk in Antrim this Sunday the 7th and meet them plus our other dogs looking for their forever homes ♥️Please please Share so we can get these 2 back into a home .🙏

So lovely to see all the hounds that Visited Santa in our little grotto last year … 😂😂We will have our Grotto again this year as so many people loved it .Even the people just walking in the park …Come along to the walk and meet Santa and his elf ..He will have something for the kids as well

OUR BEAUTIFUL DOGS READY TO BE ADOPTED .Please pm the page 😍

Not something we do often but we have 7 dogs at the minute a couple that have been here a while now . With not being able to hold our fortnightly walks over the past 6 months which help us to bring in some money selling collars ,coats ,leads etc we have missed out a lot . We pay to keep our dogs in boarding kennels while they are awaiting their forever homes . The kennels are very good with us but 7 dogs weekly bills mount up .Food and vet bills also don’t help 🙈We are asking for a little help if anyone can donate £1 with all the followers we have it all helps . Smokie and Oscar came to stay at my house (kennels) I will foster them until a forever home is found .Yesterday and they just love a good run in the Garden .Muzzles are on as when running greyhounds can play nip and muzzles avoid unwanted or unnecessary vet bills with greyhounds skin being so thin just a little nip can end up as a tear on their skin . I learnt this the hard way years ago when a girl told me to take my dogs muzzle off her dog was running free on the beach and my girl was on lead .Her girl ran past Bella a little too close and of course a nip as my girl wanted to play too and skin was ripped ending up in a vet bill for me ..I should have never listened to her and just kept my girls muzzle on … Wearing a muzzle while playing together is not cruel ,Remember greyhounds grow up and are used to wearing them out and about .please ignore the mess of the garden ..It belongs to the dogs and they have still not learnt how to use the lawn mower 🤣🤣🤣

Missy being the 7yr old she keeps the rest of them on their toes lol they all run about after her, she’s so full of life and loves to get out and about.

Miska having a much needed groom 😬 you can purchase our combs for £10.

Another boy who’s still waiting to find his forever home! Mr Arnold is also a very playful happy boy, he does have an old hock injury that’s fully healed and you can see it doesn’t stop him from having fun. He can be a little excitable at start of his walks but soon settles down

Age is only a number!! Missy, Can’t believe this fun happy Playful girl is still waiting. She’s such a sweetheart with a big heart to give so much love to a family.

Would you just look at Miss Nova loving life and doing fantastic.Im so so Happy for this wee woman able to live life and enjoy to the full . Ps This video was taken in a fully enclosed field .
