The Greyhound is a breed of sighthound that has been primarily bred for coursing game and racing, and the breed has also recently seen a resurgence in its popularity as a pedigree show

dog and family pet. A combination of long, powerful legs, deep chest, flexible spine, and slim build allows it to reach average race speeds in excess of 18 metres per second (59 feet per second) or 63 kilometres per hour (39 mph).. At maximum acceleration, a greyhound reaches a full speed of 70 kilometres per hour (43 mph) within 30 metres or six strides from the boxes, traveling at almost 20 metres per second for the first 250 metres of a race. The only other animal that can accelerate faster over a short distance is the cheetah, which can reach speeds of 109 kilometres per hour (68 mph) over 3-4 strides from a standing start. Description
Appearance
Males are usually 71 to 76 centimetres (28 to 30 in) tall at the withers and weigh around 27 to 40 kilograms (60 to 88 lb). Females tend to be smaller with shoulder heights ranging from 68 to 71 centimetres (27 to 28 in) and weights from less than 27 to 34 kilograms (60 to 75 lb). There are approximately thirty recognized color forms, of which variations of white, brindle, fawn, black, red and blue (gray) can appear uniquely or in combination. Anatomy
The key to the speed of a Greyhound can be found in its light but muscular build, largest heart, and highest percentage of fast-twitch muscle of any breed, the double suspension gallop and the extreme flexibility of the spine. "Double suspension rotary gallop" describes the fastest running gait of the Greyhound in which all four feet are free from the ground in two phases, contracted and extended, during each full stride.

As well as Nail cutting in Lisburn we can also remove your dogs corn . Ok it’s a temporary solution as corns do re appear but constant removal can also sometimes make them go away . It also removes a bit of pain for your dog while out walking . Greyhounds having corns is like us walking with a stone in our shoe it’s very uncomfortable. No anaesthesia required as Grey’s are quite tolerant to this being done . Contact the page if you would like an appointment.

It’s another sad week here at All About greyhounds .Last night we got word of Missy and this morning Bruno 2 of our adopted dogs crossing to Rainbow bridge Missy (9) and Bruno (11) . Missy had developed a limp and after treatment with anti inflammatory medication an X Ray was taken only to discover Missy had Osteosarcoma 🥲.Missy had only been in her home just under 2 years but was treated like a princess by Aoife and her family . Bruno had just celebrated his 10yr Gotcha day 3 days ago and had no signs of being unwell until last night wanting to go out to the garden in the middle of the night coming back in breathless and passed away shortly after . Bruno was just over a year old when he was rehomed by Beverley and her family . He was not an easy dog by any means but Beverley and Darren never gave up on him even with all his nightmare behaviour 🙈This was true commitment to him as we always thought he would have been returned .Thank you Beverly ,Darren and Son Ethan for giving this boy such a wonderful home and life .These dogs are Family and very hard when they leave us .They are only here for a short time in our lives and deserve to be loved and given the best each and everyday as you never know when the last goodbye will come . Run Free Missy and Bruno say hello to all mine and Ciara’s doggies up there and to all the doggies from the All About Greyhounds family . You all are sadly missed . 🌈🌈

Anyone recognise this dog . Glad to see it has a name tag on hopefully someone can catch and contact owner . And anyone wondering why the dog has a muzzle on its law in Northern Ireland for all Greyhounds, Whippets and lurchers to wear a muzzle in Public . My taking on this photo because it’s wearing the muzzle is someone has had the dog off lead and it has wandered . Greyhounds should only be let off in an enclosed area as it only takes the slightest distraction and they can run off . Please Share
