I’m still trying to figure out how to work from home and be a mum at the same time…
It’s tough.
And sometimes it can get frustrating when you are shoulder-deep in deadlines and have little people running around you causing mischief.
I’ve always known how to work hard. I’d say it’s equally my greatest strength and greatest weakness, but even after seven years of parenting, I have yet to uncover a routine that works for everyone in my home.
It’s hard to resist their cute little faces, it’s hard not to worry if they are feeling neglected, it’s hard not to get mad when they interrupt you for the millionth time, and it’s hard not to finish the day some days feeling stretched, exhausted, unproductive and stressed 😅
So earlier today I picked up a book that I used to read religiously back in the day. It’s called, ‘Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff’ and it reminded me that life is too short to obsess over what is left to do at the end of the day!
Did I do my best? Yes.
Did I give my children as many hugs as they wanted? Yes.
Did I get at least some things ticked off my list? Yes.
So why worry about the rest?
I made a decision to be my own boss because I wanted to dictate my day to suit MY idea of productivity - but I find myself quickly sinking into the very British mentality that everything has to be done a certain way, yesterday!
It’s not good enough.
In the moments leading up to what looks like an insignificant photo (the one attached), I had to remind myself all over again that I’m in control of my life, and it’s not fair to consume my thoughts with work stuff just to miss out on the very thing I work for - family.
I’m saying to you right now that it’s ok to take a break, and it’s ok to not complete every big task you had lined up.
Small goals accumulate to big ones - great things are accomplished through a series of small steps.
I heard a business coach talk about the importance of setting ourselves MASSIVE goals that aren’t easily succeeded because it keeps us motivated - I genuinely disagree.
Set yourself small, achievable goals that you CAN succeed and when you get to the end of the year, you will see that every small effort is truly worth something.
